Japan is an amazing country where whatever you do, you do it with a deep focus and precise, artistic work ethic. Basically whatever you make, it has a soul and this is what makes your craft different. During the workshop you will learn how to create beautiful handmade bamboo chopsticks from the scratches. Bamboo and all the tools will be provided on the workshop. Steps: 1. Burning and cleaning the bamboo to get the oil out of it. 2. Choosing and cutting the right size of the bamboo according to the length of our future chopsticks. :) 3. Cutting smaller pieces that looks like a stick. 4. Shaping our chopstick with different tools. 5. Using sandpaper to make it smooth. 6. Decorating your chopstick with different 'kanjis' or other writings. (Obviously it's completely optional.) 7. Repeat. :) During the workshop time you can make as many chopsticks as you want, while we are having fun, learning about how it is to live in Japan or why it is important to have 'do it yourself' skills. :) We will see how we can get connected with nature and using its very diverse, colourful materials to create something that we can use in our life. :) I highly recommend this workshop to those who would like to create something practical, but very unique and beautiful on their Japanese travel.

Hi! My name is Encsi. A Hungarian girl living in her dream country. :) Since I was a little girl I had a big passion for Nature and handmade arts, like drawing, painting or building tree houses from branches. During the years I have expanded my experiences and my interests have developed into 'do it yourself' and craftsmanship skills. :) Currently I am based in Kyoto in an old, traditional machiya house where I host my workshops take place as well. Before I have moved to Japan I have worked as an outdoor activity instructor in Scotland where I discovered how beautiful and useful it can be to be able to build something meaningful from scratches. :) Offering this experience to learn and feel how something grows in your hands is my biggest motivation.

It can be a family experience, but be aware that we are going to use sharp, heavy tools that is not recommended for small children. We have taught this method to 9-10-year-old children before without a problem, but it's always parents' decision and responsibility.
