Meet your host, Cristina, a real Genoese, who has also lived abroad for a long time. She will be pleased to open her home to all curious travelers who want to experience a real Genoese dinner.

You will start the lesson by preparing the most famous ligurian pasta sauce: pesto. It traditionally consists of crushed garlic, European pine nuts, coarse salt, basil leaves, hard cheese such as Parmigiano-Reggiano all blended with olive oil. Then, learn how to prepare home made Tagliatelle! Sit with your host and enjoy the fruit of your labour and taste the second course ( typically fried anchovies ).

Once the work is completed, you will enjoy the meal and the dish tasting with your local host. You will also taste fine local Italian wine.. Finally enjoy the gelato or dessert with some coffee.

After the lesson, ask us a copy of all the recipes prepared with the host. Get ready for an amazing experience in Genoa !

The host was unresponsive. We were running about 30 minutes late (driving from France) and I informed the host hours in advance. He never responded to messages or calls. When we arrived at the meet up spot no one was there and I couldn’t reach him by phone. We ran into the building manager of the meetup spot and he informed us that “She left because you were late.” We informed him that we tried to call Frederico to let him know of our late arrival. At this point we realized there was no communication between the “host” and the person conducting the class. The building manager calls the instructor and gives me the phone. I explained what occurred and she said it was too late to do the class because she left and is no longer home. The building manager talks her into coming back because we drove 3 hours just to do this class in Italy. She reluctantly came back and told us we would have 1 hour instead of 3. We enjoyed the class but it would’ve been better if we weren’t made to feel like a burden. There needs to be a way for the host and instructor to communicate with people who have signed up for the class. This would allow everyone to be on the same page when issues arise.

I had such a great experience today ! I learned to prepare famous PESTO sauce with tagliatelle and i will be finally ready to surprise my gilrfriend back home the host is really friendly and i enjoyed the class in a very relaxed atmosphere. She also offered us home made biscuits with gelato ! an unforgettable experience in beautiful Genoa, don t miss it !

Our host and chef was lovely and warm, she took time to explain things during the pesto class and whilst making tagliatelle pasta. It was a lovely sunny day so we sat on the terrace and had lovely weather to enjoy some food. We were provided with a some focaccia to try the pesto that we made by hand and by machine - pretty impressive how different both are and the handmade one for me was much better by far! We were then provided with zucchini egg tart/omelette, followed by the pasta we made, then some ice cream with raspberries and a coffee and cookies. Overall it was a nice experience for mum and I, and the host was lovely and pleasant.

We paid more for this experience because we thought we were getting a chef and going to learn to make tiramisu- neither of these were true. Christina was lovely but seemed unaware of what the we had signed up for (she was a lovely local women that The host contracted with from what I could tell) and no recipes were provided. We could have gotten this experience for much less money elsewhere.

This class was not as described. The description said it would be a hands on class where we would learn to make pesto, tagliatelle, fried anchovies with artichokes, and tiramisu as well as learn to combine the foods we made with local wines and be given the recipes to take home. We made pesto and tagliatelle, but that was it. The host had some pre-made fried anchovies (no artichokes) available for us to sample, but we were not taught how to make the dish or how to make tiramisu. We did not receive any info on pairing the food with wines (we were provided with wine), and we were not given any recipes to take home. The host seemed very surprised when asked by the group about making tiramisu as if she did not know it was part of the class (the page is managed by someone other than the host). When asked about recipes, the host said she does not have recipes for the foods she makes and explained that she uses her eyes and hands to determine how much of each ingredient to add. She did give a rough guide as far as how much flour and egg to add per person. The class was enjoyable, the host was very friendly, and we were provided with a tasty meal; however, I selected this much more expensive than other experiences in Genoa because it offered training on how to make four Italian dishes, a lesson on wine pairing, and the corresponding recipes...most of which was not provided. I was very disappointed that I spent my day not learning in a class when I paid to do so. The view from the host’s house beautiful and the terrace we sat on was a lovely place to enjoy a meal.

This is a really great opportunity to learn how to make pesto in the traditional way, as well as fresh homemade pasta. The hostess and cook was just lovely and her place is in a fantastic location, with a gorgeous view of the bay from the terrace where you'll have a great lunch. In addition to the pasta she provides wine and some local homemade specialties. I would note two things in particular: (1) when coming to meet and using a GPS, do not trust the GPS to get you there via the best route – instead search for "Ascensore Castello D'Albertis – Montegalletto." The public lift opens up to one of the main squares in town and takes you both vertically and horizontally to right down the street from the meeting place. (Turn right as you exit the lift and you'll be at the meeting point in a jiffy!) It's a fine experience and very unique, in addition to being the most efficient way to get there . . . unless you just love stairs. (2) A group of other tourists were late/no-shows for the experience and our hostess worried about them and bent over backward to try to make it work for them, without our experience being negatively impacted at all. She really showed genuine concern and went out of her way in an impressive fashion.
