Take a step back in time and stay in this beautiful old stone house, set on a steep mountain slope, surrounded by woods and terraces, ideal for walkers, nature lover's and bird watchers. Glorious sandy beach with two shipwrecks a twenty min. drive away.
In the winter the Stone House has a wood burning fire making it an accommodation which is suitable for holidays in all seasons, especially walking holidays, each season having it's own special charm. Three marked walks start from Arni itself.

Ο χώρος
The Stone House was originally the old grape press area of a larger house and has now been converted into a delightful little ‘cottage’ with a living /sleeping area, a kitchen and a bathroom. The sleeping area includes 2 single beds placed next to each other, suitable either for two single people or a couple with a third settee/bed in the sitting area, suitable for a child or third adult. A large old wooden table can be used either for eating, reading or the computer. In spite of being in a mountain village there is internet and a signal for mobile phones. There is also a log fire with wood available for 5€ /basket for winter visits and a bench and chairs for dining.
The kitchen is separate with a fridge, sink, a 3 ring cooker, a toaster and an electric kettle. The amenities are basic but adequate.
The bathroom has a shower with the shower ‘tray’ set into the rocks, a wash basin with a mirror and a w/c with a wonderful view of the mountain opposite.
It should be remembered that this is an old building which has been restored without spoiling its original shape and atmosphere. Purposely it has not been renovated into a modern style. It has its own particular and exceptional charm and beauty which should delight the visitor. A chance to live a little in the past!
The Stone House has a terrace in the front and to the side of the house where visitors can sit outside and enjoy their meals and the wonderful sunsets and the view of the mountain opposite.

There is plenty of space for parking.
Hot water is provided.
Bed linen, towels, tea towels etc. are provide
A small welcome pack of bread, butter, jam, coffee, tea, milk, biscuits etc is provided.

Άλλα στοιχεία που πρέπει να γνωρίζετε
‘Magic Mountain’ is in fact a sanctuary for rescued animals, so a holiday at the Stone House would be particularly suitable for animal lovers. The sanctuary is a home for 25 dogs, 25 cats and 9 equines. The dogs are kept free in a huge fenced in area below the owner’s house, which is below the Stone House. They sleep in the owner’s house. The cats are free to roam the entire area including the wooded area next door. The horses, mules and donkeys are free to roam on the property but are kept under control. A visitor to the Stone House would be free to either enjoy the animals or ignore the animals according to their taste.
There are no neighbors, except for sheep, cows or goats, as the house is surrounded by woods and fields. No traffic noise.

Arni is a wooded area with plane trees, oaks, pines, maples, chestnuts, fig trees, mulberries, apple trees, walnuts, quince trees, blackberries and so on! In years gone by it was possible to live off the fruits of the land and it is understandable why Arni became a large settlement. Nowadays it’s a naturalist’s paradise with waterfalls in the spring and streams, which run all the year round. Andros is the greenest of all the Cycladic islands (along with Naxos) with many springs all over the island. It’s also a perfect area for bird watching, with buzzards often wheeling and mewing overhead, even occasionally an eagle. Arni is in, what is considered, the wild life area of Andros.

Arni, Egeo, Ελλάδα

We are at approximately 500m above sea level, and set on the slopes of Mount Petalon, Andros’ highest mountain, so do bring some warm clothing for the evening.

The Stone House is in the grounds of a large property called ‘Magic Mountain’ in the village of Arni. Arni is a mountain village set on the slopes of Mount Petalon, the highest peak of the Kouvara range which stretches across the island of Andros. Andros is the second largest island of the Cyclades islands, which sit in the middle of the Aegean Sea. Because of its underground springs Andros has an abundance of water and is one of the greenest of the Cycladic islands, greatly adding to its supreme beauty.

Recently Andros has become known internationally for the high standard of its walking routes. An organization called ‘Andros Routes’, together with the help of many volunteers, set the goal of clearing the old mule tracks which crisscross the island, giving the walker access to otherwise inaccessible parts of the island and a glimpse into the way of life of our recent ancestors. Recently ‘Andros Routes’ received an award from the European Ramblers Association for the high standard, maintenance and marking of their routes, including a route which is 100 kilometres long. Only one other place in Greece has been given this award and only 20 others in Europe. For much more information their site is www.androsroutes.gr.
The inhabitants of Arni are still living a life many years behind the ‘modern’ world. Some still use donkeys, horses or mules as their mode of transport. Local traditions are maintained and knowledge of technology and the digital world is limited! The slopes of Mount Petalon are wooded with planes, oaks, maples, figs, mulberry trees, walnut trees, apple trees, chestnuts and so on! In winter and springtime there are waterfalls and small streams and pools even in high summer. There are several walks which start from Arni leading the hiker through exceptionally beautiful scenery, inaccessible except for those on foot.

The area is perfect for bird watching. Buzzards wheel overhead and the mountain slopes are full of wild flowers in the spring and the sound of bird song. Arni is actually part of a protected wild life area which stretches over the middle and eastern side of the island. Four endangered bird species are known to inhabit this island. They are the Bonelli’s Eagle, the Eleanora’s Falcon, the Audouin’s Gull and the Mediterranean Shag. Efforts are being made to help the survival and presence of these birds.
