The Bookery Nook is a simple, eco-friendly, creative, cosy, peaceful place to stay; a retreat from busy life - you will be cocooned by books, board games, candles, wood burner, bonfire, 4 friendly cats & bountiful nature in our small orchard on the outskirts of Norwich. We built it 7 years ago from mostly recycled materials.
There is a compost loo, kitchenette, cosy window seat, amazingly cosy double bed, WiFi, music system and space for yoga.
We also offer TaiChi, circus skills sessions & more…

Ο χώρος
The Bookery Nook is a unique place to stay. It is nestled secretively in our small orchard, behind our house, and is very private. There are other gardens that also back onto the orchard but these are hidden by thick hedges and tall trees.
You enter via our garden side gate, go through the garden and through the arch in the beech trees into the wild orchard. The door is lockable via a combination bolt, so no keys are needed. Whilst it is peaceful and private you do still hear some road sounds as people pass by since we are on the outskirts of Norwich (although you wouldn't know it once in the orchard!).

You may see our inquisitive local squirrels as they leap through the trees or scrabble over the roof, and you can meet our four adorable, friendly cats too. There are many birds and we also have a family of hedgehogs pattering about in the undergrowth in the evenings too. You can sit quietly in my meditation hut overlooking the orchard, then you can spy on all the wildlife! (...or you can meditate, read a book, drink a cup of tea or just hide from your partner/friend and see how long it takes them to find you!)
In the autumn there are plentiful apples and pears, plums and elderberries all around, so just help yourselves.

In the Nook the compost loo is easy to use and has zero smell. It is accessible from the main room so no outdoor trips in the middle of the night.

We don't have a shower out there yet, so currently we provide a bowl for personal washing, along with a hot water supply, eco shower gel and towels. However, if you would like a shower please do ask as its absolutely possible to use our house shower if its after 9am and before 7.30pm. We provide shower gel, large towels and face cloths for your use.

(There is also a lovely spa facility just around the corner at Sprowston Manor Hotel. You only need your swimming costume, as they provide towels. We go regularly, and highly recommend it! It is only 1 mile from ours, so easily walkable.)

Breakfast is included and provided in the Nook for you to help yourselves - details sorted upon booking, including vegan, gluten free and more. Intolerances or dietary requirements are happily catered for, please let me know upon booking.

As there are no cooking facilities in the kitchen (apart from kettle, toaster and cutlery for salads etc...) we can also provide yummy hot soup for tea if you wish. All vegan. Various flavours available to be decided after booking - cost is £5 per person, payable on the day, for a large pot which will easily provide 2 large bowls per person, with ample bread for dipping.

For hot meals there is a good pub (The Blue Boar) 2 minutes walk away, also a large 24 hour supermarket with cafe, plus various farm shops with quality cafes, all very nearby. Also a good selection of takeaways - fish n chips, Chinese and Indian food - and other pubs, as well as a good live music venue pub called The Brickmakers.

I have made a comprehensive local food map, which is on the wall by the door, so you can easily choose, then either go there or order takeaway if they offer it.

The double bed is very snug and cosy. We also have a comfy single bed by the window, which pulls out from the window seat - please be aware it is quite high up and we don't have a safety rail so is not suitable for toddlers. If it is to be used to book the space as two singles rather than a double please confirm via message after booking so we know to prepare the single bed, otherwise we will just prepare the double bed.

We aren't promoting the Nook as a place for children, however that doesn't mean you can't bring them if you wish, just as long as you are aware of the amenities on offer and whether or not they would suit your child. The maximum space we have would be for two adults and a child, or one adult and two children, or any combination that can share a double bed and a single. However, the Nook doesn't have a full bathroom, or a full kitchen, so wouldn't be suited for a long stay with a child, or for children under two years old.

Cos is a Tai Chi instructor with the Master Ding Academy (MDA), and teaches in our Gompa at the front of our property. You are welcome to book a Tai Chi session if you wish to sample it, or even if you are an experienced practitioner. Cost is £20 for an hour, for up to 2 people. He teaches Yang Style Form.
We also run a circus, (The Foolhardy Circus), so can offer various circus skills sessions - maybe you want to learn to juggle? Diabolo? Poi Poi? Fire Skills? These are also £20 for an hour for up to 2 people.

Our neighbours are all lovely. Our neighbourhood is a safe, friendly, family focused area, and nestles on the edge between the city and the countryside so is well placed for either, and there are many beaches within 30 minutes drive. There are many local farm shops with cafes and pick-your-owns, lots of local art based places to visit, lakes, boat hire and many nature based places on the broads. You can even go skiing or snowboarding as we have a fab dry ski slope in Norwich!
There is a doctors surgery in the cul-de-sac opposite, along with a pharmacy. We have a post office 5 minutes walk away as well as a fish and chip shop, plus various other takeaways within a few minutes drive, or bus ride, plus they mostly all deliver too.

We are only a ten minute car journey from the airport and are also a ten minute journey from the train station (in the opposite direction). There are taxis available easily from both, and cost between £8 and £12 depending on the time of day or night.

Around the corner is an award winning golf course at Sprowston Manor Hotel, just 0.9 miles away, so easily walkable. They also have a great spa, offer massages and other treatments, and have a decent restaurant and bar, although due to Covid restrictions some of these facilities are currently limited to hotel residents only, so it’s best to phone them first.

There are many electric bike and electric scooter rental points near us too. They are Beryl Bikes. Just register on their website, then they are v easy to use, and a good low cost way of getting around the city if you fancy something a bit fun! The nearest ones are located around the corner, near the mini Tesco’s, so a 5 minute walk maximum.

I love life! I am an artist, a thinker, a creator, I run reminiscence workshops for the elderly in care homes, I am a wife and mother and now I also host our amazing Bookery Nook here on Airbnb! I have many labels, but underneath it all I am just Sarah, and life is good.

I love nature, solitude, silence, cats, trees, plant based food, permaculture, keeping chickens, board games, reading books and drinking tea in a cosy chair, rainy days, the smell of cut grass, a good massage...
I love to meet people, to ‘join the dots’ and make new friends. And if it all gets too much, well, I retreat to the Nook for some rest and recuperation of my own :-)

We home educate our son, so I’m passionate about natural learning, about following your bliss, about empowering youngsters to grow through their own endeavours, drawing on the wisdom of the community around them, and on the natural world.
I am relaxed and easy going, but have an eye for detail, and the energy to follow things through. I love Airbnb and the opportunities it has created for us, both through hosting and through travelling and booking other homes.

As the Nook is in our orchard, behind our main garden, we are mostly nearby but out of sight. We may briefly need to water the veggie patch or greenhouse on v hot days, but only rarely, so you will mainly have it to yourself and we respectfully leave you alone.
Our son plays in the main garden, but knows to keep out of the orchard when we have guests staying... although he is very happy to play with any children we have staying if they wish! We home educate him, so are often out on trips and visits, but are contactable if you need us.

We are happy to see you if you need anything - just come to the side door and knock/ring. If we are out you can contact us via phone or text message.
We are happy to point you in the right direction regarding buses, days out, eating out etc... etc... as we have lived in this area for 15 years and know it well!
We are very happy to share our place with you!!
