Only about 25 min to Twillingate, 1hr to Fogo ferry.

Ο χώρος
Bergy is a thoughtfully transformed cargo trailer, created with non toxic & environmentally friendly materials & finishes wherever possible, and with an intimate yet spacious feel to the interior. There are curtains for dividing the bedroom from the kitchen, evocative of a pullman train sleeping car. The camper is strategically placed on a high ridge to take full advantage of some of the best vistas on the property.

The Bedroom:

To provide the highest quality restorative experience, the bedding linens are a luxurious combination of warm organic flannel sheets & comforter cover, along with a hypoallergenic down alternative comforter, throws, and eco-friendly mattress cover. Each side of the bed has it’s own dimmable reading light and ventilating windows that offer stunning views of sunrises & sunsets.
There is also a large storage area under the bed for your belongings.

The Kitchenette:

Bergy boasts an efficiently designed kitchenette that is setup for light to medium cooking…amenities include:

Premium quality French Press Coffee maker.
Organic Fair Trade coffee, freshly ground on premises.

Dairy alternative Organic coconut cream for your coffee and tea
.
Tea Kettle
Glass tea maker pot with filter.

Mini fridge with a separate freezer space.

Organic Olive oil.
Organic spices…cumin, coriander and a blend of Italian spices. If you need a specific spice other than what’s provided please feel free to ask.

Organic sugar, Gourmet Sea Salts, organic peppercorns
.
Toaster oven and an electric hot plate
.
Outdoor propane grill with utensils.

Bergy has a small onboard fresh water tank for washing hands & doing light dishes.
Guests are also provided with a glass dispenser for drinking water which comes from our well. We are fortunate to have well water that has been described as some of the best & cleanest tasting in the area.

Glamping Outhouse & Shower Room:

The Bathroom is a short stroll of about 20 meters (60’) from the camper, in a building pod attached to the rear of the converted church, with solar powered night lights along the path.

Eric designed and built the exterior of the shower and toilet room to be reminiscent of a traditional NL stage & outhouse, combined with a spa like interior.

Both rooms have skylight roofs that bathe the spaces with warm natural sunlight & radiant heat.
The shower feels like you are taking a shower outdoors only with all the comforts & privacy of being inside while offering beautiful private views of the ocean.

In a world where water is increasingly one of our most valuable resources, we use a fully composting toilet to help conserve & keep our water table as clean & pure as possible.

We also provide soap that is a hand cleaner, body wash, & shampoo made in Atlantic Canada that is unscented and biodegradable which is much easier on our environment.

Welcome basket:

For coffee aficionados/lovers we provide organic fair trade medium/dark roast coffee that is freshly ground on the premises, for you to make your own coffee with a French press. For tea drinkers we also offer an energizing Organic Rooibos Chai tea blend of fresh spices and a night time tea blend with relaxing herbs for a good nights sleep. The teas are carefully selected and blended by Jayshree for their flavor, rejuvenative and ayurvedic qualities.

The location & property:
The grounds are a lush & peaceful retreat setting with several nature paths & lookouts on the property. We are on the narrow ridge of a peninsula with views looking out to sea in two separate directions. One offers picturesque views of the tiny islands inside the Pike's Arm bay to the northeast of us & on out to Little Fogo Islands in the distance. The other looks out across the bay (bight) to the North Atlantic, Herring Neck, Pike's Arm, & Ship Island, among others.
Enjoy the large deck adjacent to Bergy where you can relax & take in the spectacular views of both bays, icebergs, & wildlife while grilling on the BBQ and/or savoring your meals & refreshments. It is also a great place for yoga and meditation.
Green Cove is about 20 minutes from Twillingate which is a top NL tourist destination for boat tours, educational museums, festivals, food & entertainment .
The ferry to Fogo & Change Islands is less than an hour away.
Popular annual festivals include:" Unscripted Festival"....a digital arts festival, "Fish Fun & Folk Festival" a folk, music & crafts festival, & "Art at the Gate" a new arts festival.

Other Options:

Jayshree is a certified Yoga instructor and can be available for private or group yoga sessions.
She also runs a micro bakery on the property where she makes organic sourdough baked goodies and creates fermented foods for purchase when available (temporarily unavailable). We offer only healthy foods, spices, or condiments that are organic or better (wild harvested)

Besides being a designer and craftsman, Eric is also an artist & sculptor who works in miniature paintings & 3-dimensional pieces, many of which are NL inspired. He has a small gallery inside the church that he is happy to open for guests upon request, depending upon travel restrictions/guidelines.

He also offers guided nature walks and hikes that can be educational and/or meditative. Check with hosts for details.

About the Area and surroundings:

Our location & area is a nature lovers paradise with inspiring hiking and walking trails, paths & lookouts, with something for any fitness or hiking level. We are blessed with a close proximity to a large number of diverse wildlife & plant habitats. There is a secluded rocky beach just steps away that is great place to explore. We are happy to provide directions to local trails and secret places & lookouts, or ask about our private guided walks or hikes.

We are in a prime location to watch the seasonal migration of icebergs as they drift along the iceberg alley, and often the bergs get swept up in the currents & into our bays where you can watch them from the comfort of the deck or Bergy’s windows. We are just a short walk from the Pikes Arm lookout which has an amazing 360 degree view of the coast line & surrounding islands.
You can easily see two lighthouses from our property…one a light beacon on ship island across the bay and the other is historic bacalhao lighthouse which was manned as recently as some years ago. On really clear days you can also see two more lighthouse lights on Fogo Islands.
We also have our own mini lighthouse in the restored & converted former bell tower.

There is abundant wildlife that is possible to see both from the property & in and around the area…eagles, whales, dolphins, orcas, fox, arctic hare, Canadian or gray jays, grosbeaks, seals, arctic terns, northern gannet, osprey, kittiwakes, loons, cormorants, beavers, otters, mink, lynx, moose, hawk owls, great horned owls, & snowy owls to name a few.

We are also in a fantastic place for sea kayaking, stand up paddling, & sailing in and around the coves & islands & of course around icebergs and we are very close to several easy places to put in.

Be sure and check the Bergy manual for tips for great places to see & explore in and around the area or feel free to ask your host...they love to share their knowledge of the area.

What to see when:

Everything has its season & natural rhythm here in Green Cove & in NL in general…
Spring/Summer arrives late with wildflowers blooming in late July & on through August.

Icebergs typically show up in early spring to late July.

Whales show up in spring until early Jan. when the bays start to freeze up.
They are more plentiful after late July.
Pods of dolphins or locally known as Jumpers, can be seen from mid summer on into early winter.

It takes a long time for the North Atlantic to warm up & conversely to cool back down again which doesn’t happen until late fall, so we often have long Indian summers. Falls can be extraordinary and are many peoples favorite time of the year to be in this area.
Late fall is when some of the more spectacular storms start to move through and are an awesome thing to experience, particularly from the high vantage point up on our bluff.
Storms in Newfoundland can be legendary.
NL is basically one large wild berry patch and the season usually starts in early August & runs well through October. Berry picking is one of our most favorite Newfoundland experiences.
Berries that can be found depending on the season…blueberry, raspberry, partridgeberry or lingonberry, bakeapple or cloudberry, currants, marsh berry, gooseberry, blackberry or crowberry, and cranberry.

Privacy & Hosts availability:

We have designed the glamping spaces to feel private and separate from the church even with it’s close proximity. We are also dedicated to our guests privacy and comfort and are available for as much or little contact as you prefer.
We are on site and can answer any questions, or offer any guidance/ information to help ensure you'll be a happy glamper. Feel free to reach out.

Things to Note:

Bergy is a cozy intimate space with a 6’ ceiling inside & an entrance door that is 5ft’-4-1/2” tall…be sure to watch your head coming and going from the trailer, especially if you are taller than these heights.

The grounds & spaces are not suitable for pets or animals of any kind. Additionally, hosts have severe allergies to most animals.

Adults only accommodation, we’re in an area with high cliffs and is not suitable for children.

No smoking inside Bergy or anywhere on the property. The non-smoking policy refers to cigarettes, cigars, cannabis, e-cigarettes, burning candles, incense, or essential oil infusers etc. If you smoke inside your accommodation or in any of the building spaces, a minimum cleaning fee of $450 will be charged against your security deposit.

No fires are are allowed on the property for fire safety.
Wifi works best on the deck besides Bergy, or closer to the main house. It can be spotty inside the Bergy, the insulation used inside Bergy filters the wifi signal. The good news is it protects you from wifi and cell phone radiation.
We are a work in progress… the church and the landscaping are in the process of being converted & upgraded into a B&B and glamping location.
We are also a working homestead. You may see some construction and/or recycling materials, & driftwood collections in some confined areas on site.

You'll have full private use of the amazing adjacent deck, deck furniture, & grill. You also will have your own private use of the shower room & composting toilet room as they are not shared by others.

Cleaning Protocol:
Since we first opened Bergy late last summer in 2019, we were already practicing what is very close to what is now commonly called enhanced cleaning & sanitizing practices for the courtesy, safety, & well being of our guests, as well as for our own personal safety & well being. Now with the current travel concerns we have increased our efforts & steps to further protect everyone's safety & well being.

Besides cleaning & sanitizing all frequently used surfaces we have also always aired out Bergy between guests as much as possible, including opening up the back door for maximum air exchange. Bergy has good ventilation with sliding windows, plus a powered ventilating skylight that can be left open & running if desired even in the rain. We also provide a small fan that can be used for your additional comfort.

The shower room & composting toilet also have operable windows for good ventilation and you will have private exclusive access to these rooms during your stay. We remain committed to doing the best we can to help ensure your experience is comfortable, enjoyable, & safe under current travel conditions.

The grounds & spaces are not suitable for pets or animals of any kind. Additionally, hosts have severe allergies to most animals.

After two decades in IT, I chose to travel and follow my other passions which include practicing & teaching Yoga, creating & sharing gourmet quality food for optimizing physical & mental health, and teaching & making traditional Sourdough breads and wild fermented foods. I also love kayaking and hiking, especially in Newfoundland which offers some of the most inspiring land & seascapes in North America. One of my favorite things about traveling is meeting and hanging out with new people...I've met all sorts of interesting folks over the years. As a new Airbnb host I'm looking forward to meeting more travelers & sharing our slice of heaven here at the edge of the iceberg alley. Feel free to contact me, if you have any questions about my listing. Hey I’m Eric, I am Jayshree’s partner and cohost and I also love traveling & meeting new people as everyone has their own unique perspective and life story which I find interesting & inspiring. My background is in architecture, history, art & design. I like transforming & renovating spaces, landscapes, & buildings, and especially love being out in nature or listening to music from all over the world. I have reimagined churches, warehouse & kitchen spaces, landscapes, a cargo van & a cargo trailer (Bergy). I also create art & sculptures in both miniature & larger scales that is inspired by Newfoundland. Recently, I found a new passion ...the zen of creating vistas, lookouts & paths. I really enjoy creating & sharing my creations with others. On our quest to find a place that was surrounded by inspiring, and restorative nature right outside our door, we discovered this 100 year old church, that we have converted to our home, micro bakery, & art studio/gallery.
