A house in Svarfadardalur valley, active farming area. From our beautiful and warm flat we have the pyramid like mountains to the south often named “The Icelandic Alps”, In bright weather to north you can even see Grímsey island at the polar circle.
This is our second home in rural Iceland in Svarfadardalur valley, 5km from Dalvík. In Dalvík are grocery store, pub, restaurants and swimming pool. There are many other recreation possibilities in our neighbourhood like horse riding, whale watching, sea angling, golf, hiking and skiing. Only a few hundred meters from our house is a nature reserve and a river with rich bird life to watch. Short distance to Akureyri, “the capital of North Iceland”, Mývatn, Húsavík, Siglufjörður, Skagafjördur.
The accommodation is one of two flats on the upper floor of this 40 year old house with the name of Laugasteinn in middle of Svarfaðardalur, often named the most beautiful valley in Iceland. There is a beautiful view in all directions which is one of the attractions of the apartment. There are two bedrooms, kitchen, toilet (that is shared with the smaller flat, which our co host Ösp, lives in) big living room and big balcony. Below the balcony is the sheep house with 25 sheep which belongs to “the hobby farmer” on the lower floor. The sheep decorate the view from the west window and the balcony. The ferry Sæfari, which sails from Dalvík, serves the island of Grímsey, Iceland's northernmost community, which lies on the Arctic Circle. Dalvík is well known for alpine skiing and there and in neighbourhood are some of the best known ski areas in Iceland.
