Villa Mathilde is a spacious and comfortable villa, in the picturesque village of Bouleternere - situated in the foothills of the Pyrenees, 30 minutes from beaches on the Mediterranean, and 90 minutes from resorts in the high Pyrenees.
The house has beautiful terraced gardens and a brand new pool with sun deck. Activities are almost endless – they include hiking in the Pyrenees, skiing in winter (90 minutes away) award-winning Languedoc wineries, mountain and road biking and swimming/water sports at beautiful local beaches.
It’s ideal for an activity holiday or just to get away from it all - you can relax in the garden or pool side, and look over fruit orchards towards the mountains. The house is in superb condition and fitted with good quality furniture, beds and a lovely kitchen. You can expect beautiful crisp new bed linen and fluffy towels. All double bedrooms are fitted with ample hanging and drawer space, each one has a hair dryer.
The spacious family bathroom has a full sized bath, with an over bath shower, toilet and hand basin. There is a separate WC with hand basin on the first floor.
The lounge has a TV area, large comfy sofa and extra lounge chairs. You can watch both French and British channels, or just settle down to a favourite film on the DVD player. This is a cosy area and during the cooler winter evenings you can relax in front of the wood burning stove.
The dining area, set in an alcove, has an elegant wooden table with places for 8 people – lovely for sharing a meal with family and friends.
Downstairs (separate entrance) is the utility room with washing machine, dryer and a second fridge - handy in summer to keep drinks icy cool.

Inside the main gate there is car parking area which will accommodate 4 cars. There is also on street parking nearby.
The house sits in its own beautifully landscaped grounds; there is a BBQ terrace and a patio with a very large mosaic marble outdoor table – perfect for alfresco dining on warm summer evenings
There are other shady terrace areas dotted around the property – ample opportunities to find a quiet secluded place to read a book.
The swimming pool (7m x 3.5m - 1.6m deep) is situated on one the garden’s terraces, and is surrounded by a paved deck. The area is equipped with 4 sun loungers and a parasol, bistro table and chairs.
The pool is fenced for your safety, and is equipped with a cover outside high summer. The views from the pool, house and garden are of beautiful fruit orchards and wooded hills.
The Bouleternere/Ille-sur-Têt area
Bouleternère is a charming village set in a sheltered valley in the foothills of the Pyrenees. It is an ideal centre for holidaymakers all year round as the village enjoys a wonderful climate, with an average of 300 days of sunshine each year. Within a short walk of the house is a café/bar, boulangerie and small store open all year round.
Shopping from Bouleternère is easy, with a wide range of amenities available in nearby Ille-sur-Tet, where you will find a variety of supermarkets, cafes, bars and restaurants. In Prades there is a large market every Tuesday and a smaller produce market on Saturday mornings. Visit the tourist information office and discover the many activities and festivals held in the area. It is open all year round.
The walks in the area are many, varied and well marked; stroll around the village or take a hike following some of the most beautiful trails in France. Visit the tourist information office in Prades or Rodès for free leaflets on local walks. For touring the area
Bouleternère is ideally situated and offers an excellent base. Just a few sites of interest within easy driving distance are listed below:
**Prieure de Serrabone: (20 mins) a beautiful 11th century monastery with breathtaking views - a quiet, magical place
**Orgues d’Ille-sur-Têt (5 mins): amazing rock formations which form a kind of natural ampitheatre made of tall pillars of rock which have been eroded into wonderful 'organ-pipe like' shapes that stand up to 12 meters high.
**Le Lac des Escoumes, Vinca (8 minutes) – swimming, sunbathing on sandy beach, lakeside walks
**Eus (15 minutes) running down the slopes of the Pyrenean foothills, is classified as one of the 'most beautiful villages of France'. It is also said to be the village in France that gets more sun than any other – it has a picturesque medieval centre and restaurants/cafes at the top of the village with spectacular views along the valley
**Villefranche de Conflent (20 minutes), a fine example of a medieval walled town. Festivals and fireworks throughout the year, visit fort Liberia high above the town.
The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region
Villa Mathilde is perfectly positioned: 30 minutes from the Mediterranean to the east where the beautiful sandy beaches provide long days by the sea, and the Pyrenees to the west, which offer a wealth of walking and cycling opportunities, not to mention skiing in the winter!
Take a day trip to Carcassonne, Quillan, Spain’s Costa Brava or take in the sites and charm of Perpignan with its beautiful restaurants and stunning old town.
This region is a delight; the Conflent valley provides lovely green scenery, with Mount Canigou dominating the skyline and the Pyrenees visible in the distance. You can be swimming in the sea in the morning, and hiking in the mountains in the afternoon; it really does offer you everything! There is a lake in the local town of Vinca, with beaches, from which you can swim, sail or windsurf.
Weather: This area benefits from being in the sunniest region of France, and enjoys warm, sunny weather from March all the way through to October. November and December are cooler but still with sunshine. January, February and March are great skiing months (less than 90 minutes drive to the ski resorts).
The Pyrenees Orientales has much to offer art lovers; the world famous Pablo Casals music festival is held in and around Prades (only 15 minutes drive away) during the summer and is attended by world famous musicians. Perpignan hosts "Jazzebre" an international jazz festival in October.
This area has also been the home to many famous artists including Picasso, Matisse, Chagall and surrealist artist Salvador Dalí who declared Perpignan railway station ‘the centre of the universe’. You can see examples of their work on show in Ceret, Perpignan and the picturesque seaside resort of Collioure.
There are many beach resorts including Argelès sur Mer, Canet, Le Barcarès and Port Leucate with sandy beaches for sunbathing, rock beaches for snorkeling and diving and various other activities including, windsurfing, beach volleyball, kiting, sailing and much more.
