Come enjoy a spacious two room suite in a rustic early 1900s farm house, surrounded by 80 acres of natural beauty. Hike in native prairie and woodlands, in the company of unique birds and wildlife; kayak local waters, explore nearby river towns. A great location for a writing or other artistic retreat, meditation, yoga and being immersed in nature. Lot's of gravel and some paved roads for biking adventures.
Our home is an early 1900’s historic home and we have kept the flavor of that era in our restoration efforts. The house has original wood floors and woodwork, mostly antique furnishings and a claw foot tub in the bathroom.
The guest suite includes two rooms upstairs, a bedroom and living room space. The bedroom (the ‘Barn Room’) has a dresser and small table, and full size bed. The living space (the ‘Game Room’) has a desk, comfortable reading chair, fold out futon couch and games. We don’t have a TV in the house – as part of creating an unplugged atmosphere, but can set you up to watch DVDs on a small flat screen if you like.
Bathroom facilities include a full bathroom on the first floor (tub only - no shower), and a composting outhouse with a contemplative view. In the bathroom you can kick back in the tub and soak with a view of the prairie. Note that there is full flight of stairs from the second floor bedrooms to the bathroom.
Our shower is outside, with a wide open view of the prairie! We have shampoo, conditioner, a hair drier and towels for your use.
A country BREAKFAST option is available on SATURDAY morning and includes: buckwheat pancakes (gluten free option available), scrambled eggs with veggies, locally made pork sausage, orange juice and coffee or tea. $12 per person, let me know if you are interested in this option when you book (2 person minimum).
LGBTQ owned and friendly home!
We have avoided logging our forest so that there will again be big (old growth) trees on this landscape. We are also restoring a remnant savanna, and have planted farm fields to prairie plants. Its working - we have lots of wildlife! You can see bears, deer, fox, fisher, raccoon, eagles, owls, fireflies, diverse insect species, and many more critters.
We invite you to come rejuvenate in the fresh air, bird song and beauty.

The Chippewa River
The Chippewa River is a large and mostly wild river just 10 minutes from the homestead. A great way to spend a hot afternoon is canoeing or kayaking down the Chippewa. You can borrow our canoes or rent them from a local outfitter (which includes a pick up at your pull out point). Portions of the river travel through the Tiffany Wildlife Area (see below).
Tiffany Wildlife Area
The Tiffany Wildlife Area is one of the largest preserves (13,000 acres) in Wisconsin can be accessed from several locations with only 10-15 minute drive. It is an excellent area for hiking, birding, wildlife viewing, cross country skiing, and hunting. The Chippewa Savanna chapter of The Prairie Enthusiasts hosts birding and wildlife viewing tours via a small train that runs through a section of the area.
We have many artists and musicians in our community and as a result there are opportunities to see hear live music and see local art. The following is a listing of some of the venues:
Liberty Tree Farm
Liberty Tree Farm is a rustic, relaxed event venue just outside the village of Stockholm, WI, on the bluffs of the Mississippi River. The main stage is built into the end of an old barn with a grassy meadow serving as the seating area. Benches and picnic tables are situated in the shade of the trees and warmth of the sun. The inside of the barn also has a stage and seating for rainy days and more intimate performances. Trails, dotted with sitting areas, meander through a wooded landscape, connecting open spaces suitable for all manner of celebrations. Concerts, large and small, give folks a chance to visit spring, summer and fall.
