Find out why Yuzawa Town is so special and all that it has to offer at this website yuzawa-town
What is so special about Yuzawa?
Gosh where do I begin!!
I’ll start with the snow fall…..there’s a lot, it’s deep and it’s powdery. Yuzawa had the second highest snow fall for the 2018 2019 ski season.
If you are after a true Japanese experience and deep powdery snow then look no further. Yuzawa is a traditional town with local Japanese residents going about their daily routines. You don’t see many Westerners around town.
Yuzawa offers more than just skiing and boarding. If you feel like a ski/board free day or the weather isn’t behaving, Yuzawa has you covered. You can:
•Book a FREE tour to learn how sake is made from Yuzawa’s local Sake Brewery or pop into their showroom for free tasting
•Soak and relax in an onsen
•Don’t feel like a body onsen? Why not try a foot onsen at Inamoto Hotel or Hatago Ryokan both on the West side of the station and both are FREE!!
•Take a browse at the food and souvenir stalls at Echigo Yuzawa train station
•Pop into CocoLo (best described as a Japanese form of a delicatessen) behind the food and gift stalls at Echigo Yuzawa train station (open every day)
•Try the sake vending machines at Ponshu-kan at Echigo Yuzawa train station
•Feeling peckish – enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the many restaurants along Onsen Street on West side of Echigo Yuzawa train station and don’t forget to check out East side of the station for eating options too.
•The great thing about Yuzawa is how close and easy it is to get to Tokyo so if you feel you need a city fix jump on a shinkansen and explore Tokyo for the day.
Yuzawa Town has a population of just under 8,000 and is the most easily accessed ski area to Tokyo using the Shinkansen train arriving at Echigo Yuzawa station in only 77 minutes (200km from Tokyo).
With many people now on the search for new slopes to explore Yuzawa is definitely Japan’s best kept secret (Shhhhh!! Don’t Tell). This ski town will certainly not disappoint with over 14 ski resorts with high falls of deep powdery snow. During the weekends many Japanese jump on a train from Tokyo to ski/board for the day then during the week the slopes become quieter.
Compared to other ski destinations around the world ski hire (approximately 2.500yen per day) and ski passes are not expensive(starting at approximately 43,000yen) in Yuzawa.
