Around 7km away from my bulding, Tuan Chau is lack of a local life but there are some nice landscapes and beaches that you can visit. The Habor to the bay is there, too.

Beach
It's a nice beach, too crowded in the summer but nice in the winter time. There are water sports, 3km long white sand and a wonderful view to the Halong bay. It's around 1km away from my building, you can go by foot. Bad things are poor food & drink kiosk, good things are you can just do (almost) whatever you want, including loud music on the beach :)

Ha Long beach

If you have more than a day in Halong, Hoành Bồ could be a location you should check out. There is the authentic local life with farm, fish and countryside landscape... best guava in the area.

Bình Liêu in the last years became a favorite spot of vietnamese travelers. High mountain, white cloud, everything seems to untouched. To go to Bình Liêu you need at least one day long. But it's worthy!
