Beach access
TripAdvisor has voted Mount Maunganui New Zealand’s best beach (2019). The main beach is quite wide and not too busy except for the week after Christmas.
This is the nicest beach access near us, a ten minute walk away. It is accessible for children with a few wooden steps. There is a cold water shower and tap for feet washing, and a clean public toilet. A corner store (NZers call them a “dairy”) for buying ice creams and a fish and chip shop is nearby. As well as a nice restaurant, “OBR”.
Don’t let the big concrete pipe scare you, that is just for stormwater.
