The Russian Dockyard on Poros: The ruins of the Russian Naval Dockyard are located in Kalavria, the bigger of the two islands of Poros (Kalavria and Sfera). This dockyard stands as a historical symbol of the Greek-Russian military cooperation in the 18th and 19th centuries. According to historical evidence, the Russian Naval fleet that had entered the Aegean Sea in 1770 to assist the Greeks in their war with Turkey established a camp in the harbor of Poros. The Russian commander Aleksey Orlov set up his command post in Poros as a base for operations. In 1834, warehouses and bakeries were built to provide supplies to the Russian fleet crossing the Aegean. A few years later, the newly-founded Greek state established the first Naval Base in Greece there. The Russians moved their installations a few km away at the place where the ruins of the Russian dockyard are found today. This property was held by the Russians until 1900. Although very little remains of the dockyard, it was declared a historical monument in 1989, as a testament to the important role played by the Russian forces in the Greek Revolution. https://www.greeka.com/saronic/poros/sightseeing/poros-russian-dockyard/

The Devil’s Bridge hike offers an almost surreal landscape with small natural waterfalls and fresh water pools. In the summertime, a swim in the crystal clear pool waters can be the most refreshing experience after a hike under the hot sun. One can experience the main parts of the gorge within about an hour, but there are several hiking trails (some of them pretty technical) if you would like to explore further. The hikes are easy for beginners with few parts that require more than basic fitness. http://www.live-bio.net/local-area/devils-bridge-hike-troizina/

Archeological places

The Temple of Poseidon is situated in the northern part of Poros. What remains today of this sanctuary are mere ruins. It used to be the center of the Kalaureian amphictyony that functioned as a voluntary co-operative for dealing with religious as well as civic issues for city-states including Epidauros, Prassies, Hermione, Aigina, Athens, and Orhomenos. It is believed to date back to the year 520 BC as claimed by N. Faraklas. I. Stamatiou states that it was built in the 6th century BC while some others claim that it was built even earlier than that. The main temple structure is in Doric style architecture. However, some of its columns do reflect the Ionian style. The dimensions of the temple are 27.4 x 14.4m having 6 columns on its short side and 12 on the long side, following the Dorian Order. Giannis Poulakis, in his book Poros and Its History, writes, "The Temple of Poseidon soon developed into a prestigious and Panhellenic place of worship and became a center where many Hellenic cities founded the first and most powerful in the Hellenic world amphictyony". Demosthenes, the ancient great orator, came to the temple of Poseidon's Temple demanding his right of sanctuary when he was being chased by Philip the King of Macedonia. He killed himself here by drinking the poison hemlock in 322 BC. The temple of Poseidon once contained several statues but they have all been stolen over time. For example, the statue of Poseidon was estimated at 5 meters in height. All that now remains of it is the foot: a 70-centimeter long piece, which is housed at the Poros Museum. https://www.greeka.com/saronic/poros/sightseeing/poros-temple-poseidon/
