Caño Island is an amazing marine biological reserve with virgin blue waters making it the perfect tropical paradise for snorkelers and divers. It is home to and spectacular variety of stunning marine flora and fauna and is famous for having Costa Rica’s largest concentration of coral-building organisms along the Pacific Ocean. Visitors have rated Cano Island as having the best snorkeling and diving in Costa Rica! With fantastic underwater visibility, you have opportunity to observe and swim alongside sea turtles, dolphins, stingrays, manta rays, moray eels, barracudas, tuna, snapper, parrot fish, puffers and more. This forever-changing panorama is a powerful experience for those who venture below the surface to investigate the variety of marine life found near the coral reefs. Marine life is also abundant in the general outliers of the island and you can see white tipped reef sharks, silky sharks, bull sharks and occasionally whale sharks and humpback whales. We use private services to take you on this tour.

Little fun place to access a lovely waterfall within a few miles from your vacation home. Great for all ages.
Cascada El Pavon is a fun little waterfall, secretly hiding in the lush forests of the South Pacific area of Costa Rica near Uvita. Although it may not always feature on the most common Costa Rica itineraries, this waterfall is actually quite popular among the locals. There is no designated parking spot for visiting the waterfall. You need to park your vehicle on the road side. Nobody guards this area and the vehicle will be out of your sight. So remember not to leave any valuables in the car. However, if you prefer a safer parking spot, you can drive up about 100 meters past the entrance of Cascada El Pavon. On the right, you will see a big board for Restaurant Tilapia Ojochal. They have a fairly big open parking ground. You can leave your car here, after checking with the restaurant staff. You can also eat a delicious meal there!

Rancho La Merced National Wildlife Refuge is located on the Pacific Coast, near Punta Uvita and Ballena Marine National Park. It counts on 506 ha of primary and secondary tropical wet forest, besides pastures, mangroves next to Morete River and the beach. Furthermore, it offers different environments to explore nature; it is easy to find amazing birds, reptiles, insects, and mammals. Here, you will enjoy hiking, birdwatching or horse backriding on the reserve’s trails, admiring the tropical rainforest and mangroves, riding horses just for pleasure, and visiting the Ballena Marine National Park, which is to be found adjacent to the refuge.

A delightful Costa Rican family owns the property where Eco Chontales is located. Their house is located right at the entrance to the waterfall. They have bathrooms there that you can use and a parking area for your vehicle. 4x4 vehicle is required to get to this magical place. You pay the entrance fee there, which when we went was 3000 Colones per person. They will also ask you if you want lunch, which they serve at a rancho down at the base of the falls. Lunch is a basic Costa Rican casado, but it was delicious. It’s nice to not have to worry about bringing your own food. From there you can hike down to the waterfall. It’s not far, but it is steep and a bit slippery. Be sure to bring sturdy hiking shoes with solid grip. I’d recommend sandals rather than boots because you will probably get wet. That goes for all your clothing, actually. Depending on the time of year, the spray from the waterfall as you walk past it is enough to soak you. If you’re bringing expensive camera gear, make sure you bring something to keep it dry. November is right smack dab after the height of the rainy season, so the waterfall was huge when we visited. If you go in the summer, you might not get quite so wet.

Escaleras (Dominical mountain side) - Requires 4WD – this is a 15 minute drive from the villas up the mountain to an American sports bar with as many wing flavors as you can think of & numerous beers (and pizza & wine for those not as enthused about wings & beer). You’ll see the signs on the mountain road, we won’t spoil the fun for you. There’s a great view once you get to the top! Flocks of toucans at play in the trees are provided no charge! Open 12p-9p.

Located in Dominicalito: Lunch or dinner at La Parcela, which is right off of Dominicalito Beach. Enjoy the beautiful water views on either side of the hill and if you’re lucky you may see a family of monkeys play alongside the restaurant.

Pronounced Ricar ‘dos’, ha ha, get it?! – if you’re looking for a photo opportunity you can certainly get one here, as the restaurant has an actual old airplane! It’s located on the road toward San Isidro ~10 minutes from Dominical. Casado dish is the best with a variety of dishes in one plate! Guac appetizer is the best!

Paragliding!

Our favorite site to do tandem flights is in Dominical. It is roughly 13oo feet above the ocean, offers spectacular views of the Tinamastes mountain range and waterfalls, the glorious coastal line that derives all the way to the Osa peninsula! At this site we launch in the hills thermal and soar the clean ocean wind, sightseeing jungle, amazing costal lines, the Wales tail, many different birds and at times several monkey families . Landing on the clean sandy beaches, nothing like going for a swim right after an amazing flight through the sky!
