Panajachel, also known as Pana, is a charming city located on the shores of Lake Atitlán, in the department of Sololá. The atmosphere is impressive for its beauty, and the people who are very cordial. Because of its climate and tranquility, it makes it a perfect place to relax. It offers natural reserves, diversity of restaurants, nightlife, craft market and Spanish schools. Panajachel offers a spectacular view of the San Pedro, Tolimán and Atitlán volcanoes. It is a starting point, by boat, to visit the different municipalities of Santiago Atitlán, San Lucas Tolimán, San Antonio Palopó, Santa Catarina Palopó, and San Pedro La Laguna, among others. Many of the inhabitants of these towns are descendants of the Cakchiquel and Tzutuhil groups. Santander Street is among other points of interest in Panajachel. The street has become a point of reference where you can find a variety of handicrafts, restaurants, hotels, and other services that make the destination a pleasant experience. You cannot miss the Church of San Francisco, which shows the richness of the imagery; the local market, where villagers sell their agricultural products; and the museums and nature reserves.

San Marcos attracts a very unique crowd of tourists and backpackers, drawn by its reputation as an “energy vortex”. It is filled with yoga retreats, holistic healing centers, and new-age workshops. A hippie village, if you will. But it also boasts a lot of fantastic restaurants, good-value hotels, and beautiful lakefront areas.
