Balboa is one of the biggest urban parks in the United States. Almost twice as big as Central Park in New York. Balboa park was created for the Panama Exposition in 1915. You can take in scenic views while hiking many of the different trails in the Park. There are a couple of restaurants, sometimes events, museums and shops.
The world famous San Diego Zoo is also located in Balboa Park.

The oldest active wind powering ship is floating in the San Diego Bay and is one of many ships at the Maritime Museum of San Diego. The ships are all floating museums. They are the 1960's American Submarine, 1970's B-39 Russian Submarine, HMS Surprise (ship in Master and Commander as well as Pirates of the Caribbean 4), steam yacht medea, Berkeley Ferryboat, San Salvador (replica of 16th century Spanish Frigate), and the Star of India built in 1863. The Maritime Museum of San Diego has occasional events, art shows, and is one of the best/cheapest ways to take a tour of San Diego by crusing around the bay on the Pilot Boat.
