Eating out:
There are fantastic cafes at either ends of the street. Turn right and go to the beach and you will find The Meeting Place – totally straightforward local café with all the usual teas, coffees and breakfasts; and a fabulous view.
Turn left and you will find Small Batch Café on the corner with Western Road – it serves some of the best coffee in Brighton, and lots of snacks to wash it down.
Our favourite restaurant could not be closer: The GingerMan is a 30 second stroll up Western street on the other side of the street. It’s pricey, but fabulous, and specialises in Sussex fare and booze! 01273 326688
If you prefer posh pub fare pop round the corner to 24 Sillwood Street & enjoy the Lion & Lobster, great fun and lots of space to eat and drink 01273 327299
The Artists Residence Hotel is also home to a great restaurant called The Set, one of our favourites: 01273 855572
We also love The New Club (next door to the 2 fish restaurants) for cocktails, burgers and brunch: 01273 730320
If you turn up Preston Street (next to the New Club) there are two great places: China Garden (fabulous Dim Sum on Sundays) and Sushi Garden
If Fish & Chips is more your thing then the Melrose or Regency (on the seafront) is great. Most locals prefer the Melrose: 01273 326520 Allegedly Bankers, immediately opposite you when you walk up to Western Road, serves the best Fish and Chips in Brighton. https://bankersfishandchips.co.uk/ 01273 328267
Turn left along Western Road and you will find lots of great restaurants and cafes, they change regularly. We especially like The Market – great place for Tapas. http://www.market-restaurantbar.co.uk/ 01273 823707
Just before the Market you will find La Cave au Fromage – not cheap, but amazing cheese & charcuterie to eat in with a glass of wine or bring home. http://www.la-cave.co.uk/ 01273 725500
And please enjoy some of the best LGBTQI (& straight-friendly) bars in the neighbourhood:
The Bedford Tavern serves a brilliant roast (inc Vegan) most Sundays, and is seriously good fun the rest of the time.
Velvet Jacks at the top of the street (on Western Road) is another favourite.
