It's not every day you get to visit an astronomical observatory! Exhibitions, special events, a lovely cafe, and the world famous Lovell Telescope. Can't promise you'll come away as knowledgeable as Professor Brian Cox but it is fascinating all the same!

Only half an hour away, and if Mr Darcy happens to be conspicuous by his absence then there's plenty of other distractions at this beautiful National Trust property. Glorious house and gardens, special events, particularly during the school holidays, and a tea room with lots of cake.
