Food scene

The wood-fired pizzas are amazing - certified authentic Neopolitan. I love watching them make the pizzas right by the register, and you can taste how fresh the ingredients are! Parking can be a bit crazy, but Pupatella is only a 10 minute walk away from the house!

Fabulous Thai food here! We love the crispy squid with basil, drunken noodles, pad thai, and any of their curries.

The Village at Shirlington (or just "Shirlington" to locals) is a cute and trendy strip of restaurants and shops, about 15 min walk from the house. It is home to a Harris Teeter grocery store, a public library, a stage theatre, movie theatre, and a bunch of great restaurants. Our favorites: * Best Buns Bakery (great breakfast and lunch sandwiches, fresh baked breads, cupcakes) * Carlyle (an awesome Great American Restaurant - I personally like the trout and salads :) * Dak Chicken (Korean fried chicken) * Guapos (awesome Mexican food - always packed) * Cheesetique (for all your cheese/charcuterie/wine needs) * Busboys and Poets (a local restaurant with fabulous food and "a cultural hub for artists, activists, writers, thinkers and dreamers")

Neighborhoods

This community was initially settled in 1844 by a free black man, Levi Jones. Green Valley began its gradual growth into an African American community when former residents of Freedman’s Village began moving into the area after the Civil War. The local community began to grow as the Jones family began selling some of their property to other black families. I love this neighborhood because of it's diversity! My kids go to the neighborhood school down the street and their classmates are from all over the world!

Outdoors

Less than 10 minute walk from the house, this is a great paved walking / running / biking trail if you just want to go for a morning stroll or evening walk. Note: It's downhill to get there, but uphill coming back!
