Sightseeing
Carl Sandburg home is about a five minute drive from the Bungalow into Flat Rock. There is ample parking between the main lot and the hikers lot. You can learn more about the American Poet at the visitors center or through many of the events that are held there throughout the year. Visitors can also explore the grounds using the paved and gravel/dirt paths. There are about 5 miles of trails that were built on the 264 acre property. There is the entrance trail, the front lake trail, the Memminger trail, Little Glassy Mountain Trail, Glassy Mountain Trail (summit views), and 2 trails that cut through the agriculture areas near the main house. Visitors can enjoy petting the goats at the goat barn when open. There are also picnic tables available near the lake for a quiet lunchtime picnic. It is open until sunset.

Caesars Head State Park borders Transylvania county, NC. it is a 37 minute drive from the Bungalow. Caesars Head rock formation is one of the highest points in Greenville County, SC at 3,208 feet above sea level. It is located on the Blue Ridge Escarpment of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is located near Jones Gap State Park and ran as apart of the Mountain Bridge Wilderness.

You will drive a winding mountain road until you reach the 3100 food summit. At the summit there is small park with about 1 mile of trails and a small park with benches. It is a popular place to watch the sunset, have a picnic, and even get married.

4501 Laurel Park HwyJump Off Rock is a 19 minute drive from the Bungalow and offers a scenic overlook with panoramic mountain views that is easily accessible by car year round. it is open sunrise to sunset and free.

Also, the quickest way from the Bungalow is through Dupont State Forest making it easy to stop on the way for some quick waterfall hikes.

Fred W. Symmes Chapel

They allow visitors during the day when the chapel is not in use by the YMCA camp or other events. It is strongly recommended to check their public visitation schedule prior to going. The chapel was originally built in 1941 and has undergone several improvements and upgrades since.
It is a 44 minute drive from the Bungalow, however it is located in the Mountain Bridge Wilderness area, which also includes Jones Gap State Park and Caesars head State Park. Also, the quickest way from the Bungalow is through Dupont State Forest making it easy to stop on the way for some quick waterfall hikes.
Downtown Hendersonville is very walkable and about an 8 minute drive from the Bungalow. Their are many local shops ranging from general stores to toy stores to clothing boutiques. Downtown Hendersonville also offers many local restaurants, pubs, and breweries.

The park has beautiful wildflower trails, waterfall trails, and summit trails. Part of the Blue Ride Parkway is located in Pisgah with many scenic overlooks offered throughout the park. This park is perfect anytime of the year and offers great fall leaf peeping views!

*More Cove Falls Trail: 1.2 mile out and back trail that is great for all ages. Rated easy
*Devil's Courthouse Trail: 0.8 mile out and back to a majestic overlook. Rated moderate
*Skinny Dip Falls: 1 mile out and back trail rated easy that leads to a waterfall and swimming hole
*Sliding Rock Falls: This is not a hike, but tons of fun! For a small fee you can pay to slide down this waterfall with lifeguard supervision. Great summer day activity for all ages.
*Looking Glass Falls: This is also not a hike as the falls are viewable from the road. There is pull off parking available that allows you to take a better look at one of the more popular falls in Pisgah.

Orchards
Hendersonville county has amazing apple orchards that offer fun activities for all ages. Many of the orchards offer apple picking during the season, just make sure to check their website for their hours and variety availability. *Tip: Make sure to go early or during weekdays for less crowds and shorter wait times.
During the fall many orchards offer homemade goodies including hot apple cider and fresh apple cider doughnuts along with other offerings from the orchards stores. Some have hayrides and activities/play areas for children.
There are many more orchards around the area, below just a few options.
One of the more popular apple orchards in the area. Be sure to show up early or towards the end of the day if going on a weekend during U-pick season. They offer a kids play area, hot fresh apple cider donuts, apple cider, and a variety of apples and other goodies at their store. Be sure to check their U-pick calendar before visiting.
