Greetings from Otter Rock!

What's great about Otter Rock?

Otter Rock is a delight - it's about the beach, the sand, and taking it all in with your friends, your family, or sometimes just by yourself. If you stop by the grocery store for some meal prep supplies on your way to our house, you can fill a weekend without even driving. Ultimately walk-able, our location is just two blocks from the Devil's Punchbowl overlook, which makes a great morning walk with a cup of coffee to check the surf, or an evening stroll to take a selfie every day at sunset to document your trip! You can rent boards & wetsuits at Pura Vida Surf Shop, grab a sweet treat or ice cream at Cliffside Coffee, or enjoy Mo's Famous Clam Chowder - all on the same 2 block walk to the Punchbowl. Next stop in the neighborhood is to explore the wonders of the Oregon Coast at the Marine Garden, just steps from the house if you walk NW from the intersection at 3rd & C Streets. The tides have been hard on the access to this beach, so be ready to get your hands dirty as you balance yourself or help your mom navigate the path. It's a two minute inconvenience for a couple hours of awesome! Figure out when a low tide hits during your stay, and check out the tidepools overflowing with sea life and enjoy Gull Rock off the shore break. If the tide is low enough, and you take the proper precautions for time, you can scramble inside the Punchbowl and get a whole new perspective. You'll never forget it! If you go north on this beach, you'll find the winding wooden staircase to the Inn at Otter Crest, where you can grab a meal at the Spyglass Inn or meet a friend for a drink or to watch the game in their gorgeous location with 180 degree window views. The longest beach on the area is found right past the Devil's Punchbowl parking area, down 101 stairs on Beverly Beach. This beach is a hub of activity on nice days: surfers, sandcastles, dogs, and couples strolling the beach toward the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse in the distance. There are often pools of water at low tide on the north side of this beach - great shallow spots for kids to play!

Restaurants We Recommend

We have been to all of these many, many times and can whole-heartedly recommend them. Call for hours and availability - the coast can get very busy on popular weekends and establishments often close earlier than you might expect.
We've never had a bad meal here - they don’t take reservations though. Sometimes you can pop in for a late lunch without a wait. Gorgeous views from every table. Northwest seafood focus and great service. Try the Manhattan!

Another winner - great dockside restaurant with the freshest catch (and you can buy from the fish monger here too)! It's a bit adventurous but they have the basics with a twist. There is always an amazing soup that will change your life.

World famous clam chowder - they even served it at the White House once! Everyone has an opinion, what’s yours? Kids menu items come with a fun toy shark 🦈. The one near our house (3 minute walk) was recently remodeled for outside seating plus a fryer - so fish & chips are on the menu too! Call to check on hours as it’s not open very late. If it’s closed there are 2 Mo’s in Newport and one in the Taft area of Lincoln City too.

Lovely views, great deck in the sunny weather (bring a sweatshirt just in case), and simple, well prepared food that feels like a celebration of the NW. Try the calamari, order a bottle of crisp white wine, and enjoy the boats!

Delicious menu & and good service. Nice cocktails and if you tell them ahead of time that you are celebrating an event they will add a fun touch. Lots of yummy to-go food prepped too.

Fresh of the boat with a casual vibe. Often our favorite bites when we visit Newport's Waterfront. There's a fish counter too and they have tasty specials of the day's fresh catch. No muss, no fuss, with food everybody likes. Legendary popcorn shrimp and nice patio for those warm days.
