Sure enough, they ARE French--shipped frozen, and baked on the premises!

Sightseeing and Things to do
Reputed to be the oldest street in the US with the original houses. New Paltz was settled in the 1600s by a group of twelve (the "Duzine") French Protestants who sought religious freedom here. The local Lenape tribes from whom they purchased the swath of land guided them to build in this spot, just on the east side of the Wallkill River. If you are interested in early American history, don't miss having a tour of these houses.
