Sightseeing

The iconic fog cannon situated at Wick harbour, no one knows how old it is or where it came from before it was used as a fog cannon, we don’t even have a fog horn these days as GPS navigation guides vessels safely into port, the cannon still has pride of place at the harbour and children love to climb on it.

Definitely a must see in Wick! This is one of the most interesting places you will ever visit, Wick was at the forefront of the herring fishing era and considered the most important export harbour in Europe at the time. Our Heritage Centre tells the story and you can spend hours in here and not see half of what they have on display, the volunteers work all year round and are always adding to what they have so you can go back time and time again and learn all about the history of Wick.

Originally built as a shop and owner accommodation in 1868 then later in 1947 became the first premises to obtain a drinks license after Wick’s Prohibition order was lifted! Prohibition stood for 25 years due to the deprivation of the family’s of drunken fishermen. It’s run today by myself Callum Reid as a busy entertainment bar and guesthouse being the sixth publican since then.
