Neighborhoods

Oakland City is located less than 4 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta. It neighbors the communities of West End and Adair Park. Local amenities include the Westside Beltline, the AUC, Mercedes Benz Stadium and West End Mall. Transit is a breeze with two nearby MARTA stations. Oakland City is largely residential, but near many developing businesses. Lee + White has emerged as one of Atlanta’s most exciting mixed-use destinations. The redevelopment of the West End community’s former “Warehouse Row” showcases a mix of cutting-edge breweries, restaurants, retailers and food manufacturers. The 3-mile multi-use Westside Trail stitches together some of Atlanta’s oldest and most historic neighborhoods – running from Washington Park at Lena Street south to University Avenue. The Oakland City Historic District was designated on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003 in order to preserve Oakland City’s historic collection of early-mid 20th Century residential and community landmark structures. The Outdoor Activity Center was home to a practice field for Atlanta’s former Negro Baseball League team. Bush Mountain sits in the middle of the neighborhood, and it was the only part of the area where black families were permitted to live in the early 1900s. Perkerson Park, Rose Circle Park, and Gordon White Park are nearby greenspaces.
