Daily trips close to Genova

Genova is not only rich of surprises, many guests ask to extend their stay since you can have beautiful daily trips, even by train, on Riviera Ligure.
Beautiful fisherman village with an Abbey. It is great to reach San Fruttuoso hiking from Camogli, there is as well an expert hike on the sea. Another option is to take a boat either from Camogli or directly from Genova Porto Antico: ww.golfoparadiso.it/en/go/green-line/#flights

Punta Chiappa is the best snorkeling place close to Genova. You need to be a good swimmer since the sea is immediately deep, anyhow it is like swimming in an aquarium with hundreds of beautiful fishes. Be aware there not being any service and it being an uncomfortable rock on the sea! Options to reach it: - Train to Camogli, hike (45 minutes) to Punta Chiappa. In San Rocco, 200 on see level, there is water, a beautiful view on the gulf and a great food shop, Panificio Maccarini (closed on Wednesday) where you can buy some pizza, focaccia, crostata! From Punta Chiappa you can either walk the same route or take the boat back to Camogli. - Boat from Camogli to Porto Pidocchio, then 10 minutes walking to Punta Chiappa. https://www.golfoparadiso.it/en/prodotto/blue-line/

Beautiful traditional village (even better than super busy Cinque Terre). It is great to add hiking from Camogli to San Fruttuoso with the option to come back by boat. Several tours to Camogli start directly from Porto Antico: http://www.golfoparadiso.it/en/go/green-line/#flights

Bogliasco is a charming small village: lovely place for swimming, not too commercial, cozy and with a nice local feel. Some guests went to Bogliasco one day in summer and continued to go there daily.

A surprise within the city

Nervi is a beautiful piece of Riviera within the city. Passeggiata Anita Garibaldi has breathtaking spots. Capolungo is a surprise. Some logistics: - Metro to Brignole Station, then train to Genova Nervi, then you go on the "passeggiata Anita Garibaldi" left direction looking at the sea up to "Capolungo" (nice walkway on the sea). There is a free beach with a shower and a nice restaurant (Osteria del Duca , better to book). You can go there one afternoon, swim, relax, having dinner, then back. It is a beautiful piece of Riviera in the city. From trainstation to the right you reach the beautiful Porticciolo di Nervi

Genova has an extensive system of walls and forts, one of the largest in all Europe. https://www.visitgenoa.it/en/muraeforti The largest area is at the back of the city in the Righi area. You can easily access Righi by taking the Funicolare Zecca Righi, from Largo Zecca. We love the trip to Forte Diamante. A map of the park can be found at the following link. https://www.museidigenova.it/sites/default/files/archivio/allegati/itinerari/Cartina%20dell'itinerario.pdf

Συμβουλές για την πόλη

Not to be missed if it rains (beautiful anyhow!)

Just a few ideas 1. Acquario (Porto Antico, just few minutes’ walk, really nice); 2. Galata: sea Museum (5 min from aquarium); 3. Palazzo Ducale: there are always nice art expositions http://www.palazzoducale.genova.it 4. Museums in Via Garibaldi (XVI and XVII art); 5. Palazzo Spinola Pellicceria (one of our favorite ones! we go there with the kids a couple of times per year); 6. Shopping in Via XX Settembre, there are nice covered portici and many shops, and Via Roma. 7. Palazzo del Principe (close to Principe Station).

Specialties you should try before leaving

Make your stay like a “treasure hunt” for the following “must eat”: 1. Focaccia Genovese: the most common street food. 2. Farinata: take away and it at home or at a restaurant. 3. Trofie o mandilli al pesto: you cannot miss Pesto, the typical pasta sauce 4. Pansoti con il sugo di noci: filled past with walnut sauce 5. Torta di bietole e "prescinseua" (salted cake with chard and a typical soft and acid cheese) 6. Cappon magro 7. Stocafisso accomodato: dried codfish “accomodato” specially prepared 8. Focaccia di Recco with a lot of stracchino cheese

If you like or plan to cook

To buy food and other things for your needs, there is a Carrefour supermarket (good quality and prices) in Piazza Campetto, which is 5 minutes walking: Carrefour Express – Supermercato, Piazza Campetto 19R - Open 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM. A good alternative is Coop Piccapietra, Largo delle Fucine 6 (10 minutes walk), Open 8:30 – 23:45 (19:30 on Sunday). If you like smaller shops and maybe tasting some specialty, the best shops are in Via Macelli di Soziglia. Excellent Gastronomia De Micheli. Grocery and fruit in Italy is excellent. There are plenty of groceries in the area (ask for a “fruttivendolo")
