A day out to Lincoln is a must if you are here for a few days. We are about half an hour away or you can take the train from nearby Ruskington station where you can park your car all day for free. Lincoln’s historic Cathedral is famous for its Lincolnshire Imp which features on Ewerby’s Finch Hatton Pub’s front doors. The Castle is very close to the Cathedral and also worth a visit while you are there. Lincoln has good shopping and restaurants, particularly in the Bailgate area in the historic Cathedral quarter and the recently regenerated Cornhill towards the station. The High Street runs all the way up towards the Cathedral where it turns into the famous “Steep Hill”. If you’re here over Christmas don’t forget to visit Lincoln’s famous Christmas Market.

National Trust property on the edge of Grantham. Generations of the Brownlow family made their mark on Belton, commissioning the finest designers and craftsmen of their age to shape the estate we see today. The house and gardens showcase cutting edge design and innovation, from 17th century sash windows to a cast iron-framed orangery in the Italian Garden, made possible thanks to the Industrial Revolution. The interiors are equally impressive, with a dazzling collection of silver, porcelain, and a world-renowned library. Today, Belton welcomes new generations to explore the ancient deer park, picnic in the pleasure grounds, or burn off energy in the National Trust's largest outdoor adventure playground. There is a good cafe in the former stable block and a nice shop in the adjacent courtyard. Check details on the National Trust website.

Stamford is a Georgian Stone Town, full of old world charm - its history going back well over 1,000 years. Stamford was a walled town and an inland port, mentioned by Shakespeare in Henry IV Part 2. Sometimes known as Littke Cambridge, it’s regularly used for film and TV productions, including the Da Vinci Code and Middlemarch due to its unspoilt streets and buildings. Stamford is easily reached in an hour via the A1 or take the scenic route through Bourne. It has lots of nice eateries including The George, The Crown, The Toby Norris and many independent shops so along with the beautiful buildings it’s perfect for a day out. While you’re there take a look at Burghley House, a short walk from the town centre.

Visit the bustling weekly markets and sample some of Lincolnshire’s finest produce, selling everything from speciality cheeses through to Lincolnshire Plum Loaf. If you can’t visit on a market day, you will not be disappointed. Louth has such a lot of fabulous food shops to explore, including butchers, bakers, fishmongers, greengrocers and a cheese shop. Whether you have a passion for shopping or an interest in history, this charming market town offers an array of attractions and activities: from the stunning St James’ Church sporting the tallest parish spire in the country, to the shopping area dotted with countless inns, cafes and magnificent Georgian and Victorian houses.

Woodhall Spa is unique in Lincolnshire, having more in common in its history and ambience with Spa towns like Harrogate, than with the traditional market towns and rural villages of the county. Woodhall Spa is a beautiful inland resort with an Edwardian character, set amidst magnificent pine woods. Regarded as one of Lincolnshire's most attractive villages, Woodhall Spa is famous for its peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, and with many fine hotels and attractions it is the perfect location for a short break or holiday. The village has a variety of attractions including two top class golf courses, the unique 'Kinema in the Woods', Cottage Museum, Jubilee Park outdoor heated swimming pool and several aviation heritage sites associated with 617 Squadron (the Dambusters). The “Flicks in the Sticks,” as Woodhall Spa`s famous Kinema in the Woods, was dubbed by the hundreds of servicemen who crowded into it during the 2nd World War, is unique. It is the only cinema in the country to operate by projection from behind the screen. At weekends an organ complete with organist rises up onto the stage for the interlude. A night at the Kinema is unique and transports you back to a forgotten time.

A unique partnership between the Royal Air Force and Lincolnshire County Council offers a gateway to the home of the BBMF at RAF Coningsby. You will be able to see the Flight’s historic aircraft at close quarters and to observe the BBMF technicians working to maintain them in airworthy condition. Viewing the historic aircraft is available only by guided tour. You will be shown around the hangar by volunteer guides, many of whom have firsthand experience of the aircraft. Tours of the hangar last approximately one to one and half hours. Within the hangar, you may see: Lancaster PA474, Douglas Dakota ZA947, six Spitfires, two Hurricanes, and two Chipmunks. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre and the RAF BBMF hangar are located within the boundaries of RAF Coningsby where you will enter a military environment. Therefore all bags are prohibited within the RAF BBMF Hangar on public tours. There are no secure storage facilities on site. There is also a gift shop and tea room, toilets and free parking. Some of the aircraft may not be on the site due to flights, maintenance etc The visitor centre is free (closed at weekends) but access to the hangar is by guided tour only and admission charges apply. I suggest booking in advance as these get booked up well in advance. Call 01522 782040

A memorial spire, walls, peace gardens, and visitor centre that mark the service and sacrifice of World War II aircrew, ground crew and support staff who lost their lives whilst serving with Bomber Command. The International Bomber Command Centre includes a 31-metre tall memorial spire and walls that feature the names of all those who lost their lives during the Second World War serving or supporting Bomber Command. There are also two peace gardens: one Lincolnshire and one International. An educational interpretation centre with full visitor facilities includes a state-of-the-art exhibition over three galleries telling the project's core themes: Recognition, Remembrance and Reconciliation. The exhibition includes the first-hand testimonies of those who survived. The IBCC, via its digital archive, delivers the most comprehensive coverage of Bomber Command globally, including the contribution and effect on over 60 nations. The view through the Memorial Spire leads directly to Lincoln Cathedral, reflecting the view that let those of Bomber Command know they were almost home from their missions, and importantly for those who failed to return flying from Lincolnshire, provided their last view of their home. The International Bomber Command Centre is located 2.6 miles to the south of Lincoln city centre and is close to Canwick and Bracebridge Heath villages. The postcode for the IBCC is LN4 2HQ, and for those using the app What 3 Words, the IBCC can be located at: noise.rubble.soccer By Car - Access to the site is from Canwick Avenue B1131 (opposite a Premier Inn and Beefeater Restaurant).

The air museum is located on part of the former World War Two airfield of RAF Winthorpe, close to the Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire border. Aviation heritage has been at the centre of our historical site for more than forty five years. Our aircraft, helicopters, aeroplanes, aero engines and aviation exhibits are sited partly on leased land next to the Newark Showground and land that we own. Very little remains of the original wartime buildings and what remains of the original runways are no longer fit for use. In addition to the aircraft the museum displays a diverse display of aviation artefacts and a collection of more than thirty five aero engines. When you visit we hope that you will find time to pause for a break in our Café. Whilst we are operating to Covid-Secure guidelines you can choose from a selection of pre-packed sandwiches, cake snacks and hot or cold drinks. You do not have to pre book and admission rates apply. Free on site parking. Please go to www.newarkairmuseum.org for more information.

We are open Tuesday to Saturday CLOSED ON SUNDAYS & MONDAYS Opening times- Wintertime (October-Easter) 10am-4pm (last entry 3pm) Summertime (Easter-October) 10am-5pm (Last entry 4pm) If you plan your visit to coincide with a flying day you will see our grass landing strip in operation. This museum is just under 9 miles from Ewerby, off the A17 at North Rauceby and opposite the airfield at RAF Cranwell. Discover the fascinating story of the historic Royal Air Force College Cranwell and become a pilot on the Jet Provost flight simulator. Royal Air Force College Cranwell is probably one of the most famous landmarks in Royal Air Force (RAF) history. Its long history dates back to 1918 after the amalgamation of the Royal Naval Air Service and Royal Flying Corps who sought to establish a single unit where officers could be trained to fly. It became the first Military Air Academy in the world. At the Cranwell Aviation Heritage Museum you can discover the history of RAF Cranwell from its early days as a Royal Naval Air Service base to the current day. The experience includes interactive exhibits such as a Jet Provost flight simulator, Vampire nose pod, exhibitions and artefacts. There is also a courtyard area with Jet Provost aircraft on display. Light refreshments and a gift shop are available together with tourist information. There is also an annual programme of events from changing exhibitions to their annual summer fun day. The museum is open Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays 10am - 3pm. However please check ahead of your visit as there are occasional changes to these times. www.cranwellaviation.co.uk 01529 488490
Metheringham is just 20 minutes by car from Ewerby. Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre is a small museum dedicated to the men and women who served in and supported 106 Squadron, Royal Air Force Bomber Command from 1943 until the end of the Second World War. Based in buildings that were once part of the airfield’s communal site, the museum is the home of Dakota KG651, a veteran transport aircraft that saw service during the War. The museum’s wide range of exhibits give visitors a real sense of what it was like to live and work at RAF Metheringham during the war. Brand new for 2021 is the Commonwealth of Comrades exhibition, which tells the story of the men and women who came from across the globe to serve at the airfield. Visitors can experience each Lancaster bomber crew position, learn about the equipment each crew member used and the training they had to do. Another new feature is the Ditching Display, which features the museum’s rare World War 2 aircraft dinghy and a range of artefacts relating to ditching in the sea. The museum's Dakota KG651 is being faithfully restored to its former glory and represents similar aircraft from the US 52nd Troop Carrier Wing that carried wounded servicemen through RAF Metheringham on their journeys back to the United States. Visitors can board the aircraft and feel what it would have been like to have flown as a passenger on a Dakota, as well as sitting up front and getting a pilot’s eye view. Opening times: Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays (March - October) 11:00 - 17:00 more information: Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre Westmoor Farm Martin Moor Metheringham LN4 3WF www.metheringhamairfield.co.uk
