Sightseeing

The grounds are beautiful, and the lighthouse has the original stairs inside (1872). Only one climber is allowed on each section of the stairway at a time, in order to preserve them. Check their website before you go--hours of operation change with the seasons and appointments are required. Well worth the visit even if you don't plan to go inside the lighthouse...it's a nice place to take a walk around.

The cemetery is cool but it's the trail behind it that ROCKS. This is the ideal trail for long walks or runs in the winter months. The wide trail has a pond, grassy paths, sandy paths, pine needle-covered paths, varying elevations (for around here)...lots to take in. The entire trail and back covers nine miles, so you can really get your distance in if that is what you are after. You might run into a few other humans, but overall it is a place of solitude. Too many bugs in the summer, in my opinion!, so it's definitely a winter destination. It's a half-hour's drive from the Bug.
