An amazing tip! Between Paraty and Paraty-mirim we have Quilombo do Campinho. From Paraty-Mirim to Quilombo it’s about 20 minutes, following the Rio-Santos Highway again towards São Paulo. The recommendation there is a lunch break and a tour to learn a little about the history of the place.
We have families living in Quilombo do Campinho. It’s said that 3 slaves women inherited the place after the abolition of slavery and then they start the community. It’s an amazing tour and experience.
PARATY-MIRIM INDIGENOUS RESERVE
Close to Paraty-Mirim beach, we have an Guarani tribe indigenous settlement. This reserve is already recognized by the National Native Americans Foundation and live about 36 families producing handicrafts and agriculture. It’s quite common, during your walk at the historic center, to see the typical Guarani handicrafts: the colorful baskets. To visit the village, just have to call. It will be an unforgettable experience.

Temos famílias morando no Quilombo do Campinho. Conta-se que 3 mulheres escravas herdaram o local após a abolição da escravatura e então iniciam a comunidade. É um passeio e experiência incrível.

City/town information
Paraty grew in the 18th century as a strategically important port for exporting the gold mined in Minas Gerais. When shipments in nearby Rio began to attract the attention and ambition of pirates and privateers from rival European powers, the Portuguese began using Paraty as their safe port for getting their gold to Lisbon. Together with Ouro Preto, the town was part of the Royal Road (Caminho Real or Caminho do Ouro, Gold Road), a route used to export gold in colonial times. It was also an obligatory sleep-over stop for travelers between Rio and São Paulo until the late 1800s, when the inner road was opened. This caused Paraty to be forgotten, stalled in time, away from "progress" and disfiguration and helped it preserve its old city as it was in the past. In the 1970s, it was rediscovered as a popular tourist destination.
Paraty cresceu no século XVIII como um porto estrategicamente importante para a exportação do ouro extraído em Minas Gerais. Quando os carregamentos nas proximidades do Rio começaram a atrair a atenção e a ambição de piratas e corsários de potências europeias rivais, os portugueses começaram a usar Paraty como seu porto seguro para levar seu ouro a Lisboa. Junto com Ouro Preto, a cidade fazia parte da Estrada Real (Caminho Real ou Caminho do Ouro, Estrada do Ouro), rota usada para exportar ouro na época colonial.
