Once known as The Dirt Mall (before the road was paved) the 1/2-mile strip is lined on both sides with quaint shops. Many of the items sold are handmade including unique pieces of pottery, Mexican ceramics, furniture, metal/wood art, silver jewelry, baskets, seashells and designer glass art. The shops and galleries also offer an array of t-shirts, sunglasses, sombreros, bags and traditional jorongo (Mexican blankets and serapes). Open daily 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

The Plaza offers picturesque views, live music, mariachi bands, art and parades. According to legend, American gangster Al Capone often visited this sleepy fishing village during the days of prohibition. It is presumed he stayed at The Penasco Hotel, now named Hotel la Roca, in the Malecon.
