Vancouver locals are very friendly and happy to help

Do not go to Main and Hastings St in the downtown east side. Don’t even drive through there as the denizens tend to stumble across the street. It’s post apocalyptic.

Winters can be cold and very wet here. Warm boots and a cozy water proof coat are a good idea. By cold, I mean it might go down to 0 Celsius. Not prairie or east coast cold but we are wimps . Forget umbrellas …wear a coat with a hood.

Watch the parking signs. You will get ticketed and towed if you do not follow the posted regulations. No Parking after 3 pm strictly enforced in downtown areas

Tip your servers generously as most are not paid a living wage

On the Stanley park causeway and the tunnel going from the ferry, the middle lane changes direction. There are red “x” and yellow lights which indicate the lane is going to change direction or has changed direction. Drive only in the lane with the green sign or you will be hit by oncoming cars!

Downtown intersections have traffic lights for cars and for bikes. They also have bike lanes that you must cross to turn corners. Watch out for cyclists and be aware of the lights.
