Is smallest island of the Bay of Naples. This soulful blend of lemon groves and pastel-hued houses is memorably picturesque. Mercifully off the mass-tourist radar, Procida is like the Portofino prototype and is refreshingly real.

Pompeii was a large Roman town which was completely buried in volcanic ash following the eruption of nearby Mt. Vesuvius in 79 CE.
Pompeii is one of the most significant proofs of Roman civilization and, like an open book, provides outstanding information on the art, customs, trades and everyday life of the past.
The origins of Pompeii are uncertein, but it seems likely that it was founded in the 7th century BC by the Campanian Oscans. Over the next seven centuries, the city fell to the Greeks and the Samnites before becoming a Roman colony in 80 BC.
