Katalinić hill A hill southeast of the city harbour, separating the harbour from Bačvice, was in the Middle Ages the location of the church of St Peter de Buctis, and later of the fort which defended the city from the sea attacks. It earned the name it carries today at the end of the 19th century, after the local estates belonging to the rich family from Split named Katalinić. The most memorable trademark of this park today is the Memorial Lighthouse, together with the tomb to the unknown sailor who died in the Second World War dedicated to the memory of the sailors who died at war and in peace. The lighthouse was damaged during the aggression war on Croatia at the beginning of the nineties, and it was restored in 2014. Like Sustipan, Katalinić also offers a beautiful view of the sea and the islands, but also of Bačvice and the city. It is a favourite meeting place for the young, especially those in love.
