Some people call this place Mile 88 because the road to the beach is just South of mile marker 88 on Highway 19. The official name, according to the State of Hawaii, is Manini'owali. But the most common name for this beach is Kua Bay. Great sandy Beach most of the year. You drive in off Highway 19…

One of the most beautiful beaches is Kua Bay. The waves can get a little rough but the beauty of this beach is hard to compare. It is part of the Kekaha Kai State Park and is the second entrance if you are heading north on Highway 19.

Kua Bay is a beautiful beach that’s somewhat close by. They recently added showers and restrooms. It’s a great place to go for a dip in the ocean in the evening sunset

“Along Ali’i Drive in Kona is Kahalu’u Beach Park with the easiest snorkeling experience. The water is protected by reefs so it’s not deep, and upon entering the water you’re in a living aquarium with lots of different types of fish in all colors. A lifeguard is on duty not so much as to protect humans but to remind visitors to be respectful of the sea life and avoid standing or disturbing the algae along the rocks. It is a popular area but it’s for this wondrous experience rather than for rest and relaxation. Bathroom and outdoor showers Picnic tables And near shops and eateries”

“Great beer, nice garden atmosphere. OK food. Limited menu. Can be crowded with long waits. Best to get there around 11:30 for lunch. ”

“Great place to buy snorkel gear, boogie boards, carts/wagon, and life vests. Plus you can stock up on food, snacks, drinks, and alcohol. This is also the cheapest gas on the island. It does require a membership.”

“Island Naturals is a local market that serves health conscious and organic foods. Local fruits and other food items can be found here. Though you need to order it ahead of time, they have a Lilikoi cheesecake that is worth the money.”

“If you can't decide between a Mai Tai or an iced latte, Daylight Mind is the place to go! You can order drinks from the front counter and go sit upstairs on the waterfront Lanai, or if you're looking for drink and appetizers, you can ask for a table in their wave-crashing restaurant. ”
