One of my favorite coffee shops in the city, Verve Coffee Roasters at Market and Church has an incredible selection of coffees that are brewed in a custom-made coffee machine that takes up a huge section of their counter. They have a small selection of excellent pastries - my favorite is always the Kouign Amman, a dense, buttery layered pastry from the Brittany region of northern France.

Closest snobby, 3rd wave coffee with a nice place to sit outdoors. The coffee at Bianchini's market is probably your best bet if you don't want to leave Portola Valley.
