Quiet beach where waves will be a bit smaller- the sea meets the estuary. Good for dog walks but please pick up 💩!

Beautiful estuary beach - walk down the boardwalk or along the estuary edge with panoramic coastal views across to Instow, Appledore, Westward Ho! or Lundy depending on your direction. Not so suitable for swimming on the estuary side, but walk closer to the point and around to the sea and you can swim there - you are at the far end of Saunton Beach at this point.

Drive to Crow Point from Braunton, turn left into small toll road (toll £2.00 for cars - Cash only), drive to the end and park. Beside the car park is the Taw Estuary. Walk along the banks towards the boats, passing lots of wild samphire. Go past the boats, including the interesting wreck of an old trawler. Around the corner is Crow Point itself, where there is a small automated lighthouse. On the other side of the estuary you can see Instow and Appledore. Continue around the corner and there are five miles of sandy beach leading to saunton Sands. After about a mile, just before the wooden posts, is a boardwalk across the dunes back to the car park. The whole circular walk takes about an hour and whilst there are no dog restrictions please be warned that there are no shops or toilets either! Crow Point is one of our favourite walks and is relatively unknown to tourists.

Crow point is an unspoiled haven of natural beauty and wildlife. An area of beach where two rivers meet at an estuary leading out into the sea. An unspoiled beach where the rivers Taw and Torridge meet. Crow Point is a sandy beach backed by low dunes that lies at the southern end of Braunton Burrows Nature Reserve. The Burrows are the southern extension of Saunton Sands on the coast of North Devon. The beach looks across the River Taw to Instow Sands and Appledore. The ‘point’ is a sand spit formed near the confluence of the Taw and Torridge rivers. Access to Crow Point car park is via a toll road at Velator, near Braunton. There is also a pedestrian footpath from Velator where dogs are required to be on leads due to grazing sheep. Alternatively, Crow Point can be accessed on foot or bike along the American Road which runs south from Sandy Lane car park and meets the car park at Crow Point. (There is no vehicle access along the American Road).

Crow Point is a peninsula that extends into the Taw & Torridge estuary and is part of the Braunton Burrows nature reserve. It is a hidden delight with amazing views and home to many types of sea and estuary birds. It's not somewhere I'd go to swim as I think the currents might be dangerous, but it's lovely for a walk and sliding down the sand dunes is great fun for kids.
