Somerset Place is a representative state historic site offering a comprehensive and realistic view of 19th-century life on a large North Carolina plantation. Great for history buffs.

About a hour away. It offers an interpretive tour that explores the lives of the plantation's owners, enslaved community, employed whites, and free blacks.

The Somerset Historic Site is a great historic site that features the history of several buildings for the slaves of the plantation house. The site also includes two houses, a hospital, and the grounds which include a place which was used to punish slaves. The visitors can take a tour of the site by visiting the plantation house, the dairy, kitchen, laundry, smokehouse, and salting house.

North Carolina had only 3 plantations that had more than 300 slaves, Somerset was one of them. It was the sight of a remarkable reunion between slave and owner descendants. It's a very interesting stop if you want a half day outing.
