We are Liberty Hill Farm, in Rochester, Vermont! Tours run Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 9 am. Our farm tours are scheduled to coincide with daily chores to allow guests the opportunity to experience daily farm life. Guests will be able to watch the cow milking process and even try their hand at milking! From there, we will explain the journey from cow to milk jug. Guests will learn about the different ages and stages of the dairy cow, from birth through adulthood. We will meet, pet, and even feed baby calves, explore the barns, and possibly even witness a new baby being born! Every tour is adjusted to meet the needs and interests of our guests. We encourage our guests to participate hands-on, and encourage questions and ideas! We simply love to share our love of farming and our animals with others! ***All proceeds from our farm tours go directly to our nonprofit organization, Liberty Hill Center for Agricultural Education. *** Other things to note: Tours will be held rain or shine! I only cancel if temperatures are below zero, so please plan accordingly! It is up to the guest to check weather reports. No refunds will be given for guests canceling the morning of the tours for weather-related issues. We love all animals, but cannot host guests’ pets, for the safety and well-being of our animals!
Play With Clay On The Potters Wheel
Learn from a Master Potter how to "throw" pots on the potters wheel. This one and a half hour class will take you from a ball of clay to forming a cup, bow or some other creation that only you could do! You will learn the basic techniques needed to center the clay and form a pot. Most guests are able to try 3-4 pieces of clay during the experience. This gives you a good feel for working on the potters wheel. It's fun, it's mesmerizing and something you will remember for a lifetime. Other things to note: The experience is getting to understand working on the potters wheel. Unfortunately, you will not be able to take any pts home with you. Making a ceramic pot is a multi-step process and the throwing part is only the first step of four that is spread out over a few weeks. Please provide proof of a Covid-19 vaccination via a pic prior to the experience or physical card at the time of the experience. Unvaccinated individuals will not be able to participate. Masks are no longer required in the studio. A good attitude, the ability to use both hands and sit on a low stool is required. Two cats live in the studio!
Hands On With Magical Miniature Horses
We will meet for a short orientation outside the barn. We will then introduce you to "the herd" and select a few horses to demo how to approach them, halter and lead them, groom them. You will then be helped to choose your own horse for the day. If the weather is cooperative, we can go for a short trail walk and perhaps see some of the wildlife who seem to be more comfortable and come closer when we humans are attached to a horse! Q and A is ongoing. All questions are welcome, and we will make every effort to gear the experience to the guests' individual ages and interests. Some may simply want the 'therapy value' of touching and communicating. Some may want information on how we care for the horses. Some may want a demo on how we show them in competition. Energetic guests may want to take a horse over a set of appropriately scaled jumps or obstacles. All can be arranged, and everyone in the group can do something different, as long as I can maintain my ability to be six places at once. :) We can also provide a special occasion for any age guest and his or her celebrants, with appropriate refreshments that you bring along or order here. Other things to note Please dress appropriately for the weather. Closed-toe shoes, please. Sunscreen and bug repellent are handy seasonally. THE MAGICAL MINIS EXPERIENCE MAKES A FABULOUS, ONE OF A KIND GIFT!
Barn full of Goats
Guests will be welcomed into our barn where there will be a short explanation about how to safely interact with our goats inside the pen. We will then head into our goat pen for your "goat therapy" session! Guests are often surprised at how friendly our goats are!! Our girls are friendly, funny, curious creatures who are very smart and capable of knowing their names and learning daily routines. And since this is a working dairy goat farm every spring there will be a lot of bouncy GOAT BABIES to play with!! While visiting feel free to ask questions, we love to talk about our goats and share what we have learned through our experience as dairy goat farmers. You are welcome to take photos and share them on social media posts but please tag our farm, we'd love to see your pictures! We can’t wait for you to join us on the farm, meet our goats and let us show you why we love them so much! Trust me, you’ll be glad you did!!! Other things to note: 1. Non-alcoholic beverages are provided 2. Goats like to taste things, please consider wearing long hair up and no dangling earrings. 3. No pets please unless you require a service animal and then please notify the farm prior to arrival, goats are scared of dogs. 4. There are no bathrooms in the barn, please plan ahead. 5. Please wear clothing/shoes that can get dirty.
Make a Handblown Glass Object
Want to try your hand at glassblowing? It is exciting! Make a flower or a paperweight or an ornament with our help. You'll experience first hand the thrill of working with molten glass and will create a unique work of art from start to finish. I will start with an overview of the glass studio and the glassmaking process and give you an actual demonstration on how to make the item you've selected. You’ll roll the glass in the color(s) of your choice, blow into the pipe, and help shape the piece. After an overnight controlled cooling process, you walk away the next day with your own, one-of-a-kind creation or we can arrange shipping for a small additional cost. Other things to note This experience is open to any one from the age of 8+ If the times available do not match your travel plans let us know to see if we can accommodate you a different day. We require all participants to be masked during the up tick in Covid 19 cases.

Pig Feeding and Belly Rubs on a Scenic Farm in Vermont
At River Ridge Farm we LOVE our pigs! There are three resident pigs we are keeping as pets. Herold, Mama and Wilbur are sweet small/medium sized pigs whose breeds are known for being very social and friendly. Guests will enjoy feeding them snacks while watching their keen senses and rooting skills go to work, then we will be free to enter the pen and give back scratches and belly rubs as well as learn about upkeep of the pigs and their chicken friends. Collecting farm fresh eggs to take home and feeding the chickens finishes the interaction. This event takes up to 30 minutes and is located close to wonderful restaurants or hiking spots for an easy way to “make a day of it!” :) If farm hopping is your goal, there is also a llama farm that offers hiking with llama companions in addition to a horse farm that gives tourism trail rides on their big draft horses. Ask Diana to help with any arrangements or recommendations to fully enjoy this gorgeous part of the green mountains!

During this 90-minute tour, you will enjoy the beautiful farm landscape, get a crash course in animal behavior and ethical farm animal care, and learn about our community model of farming and outdoor education. On weekend tours, you'll even have the chance to try your hand at milking one of our dairy goats! Visit with our always entertaining Registered Nigerian Dwarf and Nubian/Alpine/Oberhasli dairy goats and meet our beautiful Normande dairy cows. Join our flock of chickens (and 3 ducks!), and cuddle with bunnies. Take a stroll through our pick-your-own veggie and herb gardens. We look forward to welcoming you to the farm!
A Walk With Wool
We will begin by learning about Shetland sheep, their management, what a ruminant is and other facts specific to the Shetland breed of sheep. I will talk with guests about why we are breeding the sheep we have and what it means for them to be on the Nature Conservancy's list of recovering breeds and why it is important to continue smart farming practices to conserve breeds that are important to diverse agriculture. Once guests have had their fill of sheep snuggles, I'll talk about the benefits of wool and demonstrate different processing techniques to show guests how the wool goes from fluff to useable yarn and fabric. Guests will have the opportunity to dive in and try their hands at wool carding, spinning and knitting with guided instruction. My hope is that guests will leave with a better understanding of the importance of conserving rare agricultural animal breeds, how their conscious choices while shopping for products can make a huge difference in animals lives, small farmers lives, their communities and the environment. Our goal is to take care of our environment while promoting rare agricultural animal breeds and educate others about the importance of taking care of the land, the animals and each other. Our educational experience packs tons of information and instruction into just an hour long mini class.

Trout fishing on private Vermont ponds in beautiful setting
Fishing for Rainbow and Brook trout in my private ponds. My ponds are teeming with trout, they are fun to catch and delicious to eat. I can cook up your catch right here or you can take it with you and prepare it yourself later. The trout we will be looking to catch start at 10 inches and range all the way up to 6 pounds! The larger pond is approximately 6 acres and the smaller pond is about 1/2 acre. You can fish from the shore or I can take you out in one of our row boats. I have a variety of fishing poles and lures, but you can feel free to bring your own as well.
Ice Fishing in the Upper Valley
We will be meeting at a boat launch on Lake Morey in Fairlee, VT. We will first make sure you are outfitted with the proper ice equipment. We start with training on ice safety, basic ice fishing technique and etiquette. We will be targeting local fish species, different fish bite at different times of the day, as well as during different weather and light conditions. Target fish include: Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Rock Bass, Bluegill, Yellow Perch, and Pike. For more details on fish species, click here - https://vtfishandwildlife.com/fish/fishing-opportunities/sportfish-of-vermont As the temperatures and weather can fluctuate, we will be walking to various parts of the lake, and our warming tent will be available for anyone that wants to take a hot chocolate break. There will be plenty of time to take photos and video, if you wish. And we will keep an eye out for the bald eagle flyover that we usually get on this lake. Other things to note Mike is fully certified in Wilderness First Response, as well as Swiftwater Rescue. Most of the Lake has signs of civilization on all sides, we won't be too far from the safety of home most of the day.

Enjoy the magic of salt cave therapy in a Vermont barn
Guests will join me at the Vermont Salt Cave Spa to experience the healing benefits of halotherapy, relaxing in the only salt cave in a traditional barn anywhere in the USA. It offers a truly magical time recharging the body in a highly saturated negative ion environment whilst breathing in pharmaceutical grade sodium chloride that is crushed to less than 10 microns in size. Breathing in this salt provides hygiene for the lungs. It is a healing modality covered by insurance in Europe but unfortunately not in the USA. Anyone with respiratory issues, allergies, sinus problems, asthma etc., will marvel at how they feel after just a single session.
Sweeping valley views, maples & waterfalls photo hike
Join me for a guided day hike up to Vermonts famed Long Trail. Stunning views, foliage and secret valleys unfold on this moderate hike. We'll connect beforehand to run through a suggested gear list and weather appropriate clothing as well as answer any questions you might have. On the day, we'll meet at the trailhead. I'll check in with you to make sure you've got everything you need, including suitable footwear, then we'll head off. Its an easy meandre through old woods and along a legendary lake. It eventually becomes a stiff climb as the trail works its way to the top. We'll arrive at a Long Trail shelter and have time for a snack and decide our next hour. We can hike deeper into more technical terrain, or take time to enjoy the view and wander back down at our leisure. That decision is ours to craft on the day. I dont expect you to have experience or be super fit, just be eager, resilient and interested. Be ready for rocky terrain, maybe mud. You'll leave with lungs full of fresh air, a camera roll full of Nat Geo worthy pics, memories that will never fade, and a tired body ready for a good dinner.
Red Barn Family Farm Tour & Campfire
Be prepared to get up close and personal with our family friendly animals. First you will meet our pony Bashful, where you will learn how to feed, brush and care for his hooves. Next you can acquire knowledge about shearing and meet our flock of sheep named Mae, Gary, Ollie and Clove. Last you will search for eggs from our chicken coop and learn their free range habits. After your tour, enjoy Vermont's mountain view with fresh S'mores while you relax around a campfire.
