Hiking with Goats
A Ten Apple Farm goat hike is a two hour recreational and educational goat experience. You'll meet your hosts (and our herd of Alpine dairy goats), and hear about their 16 years of experience with goats and living on a small family farm. Once we've met the goats and the many other animals residents of the farm, we’ll set off on a hike through the Ten Apple Farm woods with the goats and Philip our sheep! The hike consists of an approximately one and a half mile loop trail through our woods on lightly groomed trails. Along the way we’ll talk about goats as pack animals, what they eat, and you’ll learn a thing or two about raising and caring for goats. There's lots of time for interacting with the goats, asking questions, or just soaking in the Maine woods and these adorable, fun animals. We end the experience with fresh goat milk and homemade cookies! Please note: Children must be at least 5 years old and accompanied by an adult. 5 and 6 year olds should plan to hold a parent's hand during the hike. (Children under 4 must be carried). Other things to note: The hike is not strenuous, but there is a little bit of steep terrain in 2 spots. We have rope railings on the trail to assist with getting up and down in those spots, but guests who have bad knees, hips, or other difficulties with uneven or steep terrain should be aware.

Creative play is so important in our over-worked, stressed, online connected world. #ArtHeals Other things to note Feel free to bring your own Apron, Tshirt for Painting. I do have a refrigerator if you would like to bring any Beer/Wine. Parking on the street and in Parking Lot across the street
Hands On With Magical Miniature Horses
We will meet for a short orientation outside the barn. We will then introduce you to "the herd" and select a few horses to demo how to approach them, halter and lead them, groom them. You will then be helped to choose your own horse for the day. If the weather is cooperative, we can go for a short trail walk and perhaps see some of the wildlife who seem to be more comfortable and come closer when we humans are attached to a horse! Q and A is ongoing. All questions are welcome, and we will make every effort to gear the experience to the guests' individual ages and interests. Some may simply want the 'therapy value' of touching and communicating. Some may want information on how we care for the horses. Some may want a demo on how we show them in competition. Energetic guests may want to take a horse over a set of appropriately scaled jumps or obstacles. All can be arranged, and everyone in the group can do something different, as long as I can maintain my ability to be six places at once. :) We can also provide a special occasion for any age guest and his or her celebrants, with appropriate refreshments that you bring along or order here. Other things to note Please dress appropriately for the weather. Closed-toe shoes, please. Sunscreen and bug repellent are handy seasonally. Join naturalist, Bones, and her two donkey buddies, Fish and Sully, for an afternoon stroll along the beautiful Presumpscot River! We will start your adventure by getting to know these two adorable characters who will immediately lower your blood pressure just by being in their presence. These guys are chill. Bones will then fill you in on some donkey facts, behaviors, why these ‘mini’ donks are so small, what they love and how to best care for them. After making sure everyone is comfortable and ready for an adventure, we will then grab our day packs with the delicious picnics we have packed ourselves ( hopefully including Fish and Sullies favorites such as fig newtons, tortilla chips or carrots ) and head off towards the river. Nature lovers may want to bring a pair of binoculars and adventurous types might throw in a bathing suit and towel. Our Donkey Walks are more of a leisurely stroll than a hike. A mosey really. Lots of time to share stories, identify mushrooms and animal tracks, jump in the river, and just enjoy the forest and river. Usually we make it as far as the falls by a lake before turning around after the picnic for a total walking distance of around 1.5 miles. There are a couple of steep sections so this hike may not be for everyone. Our Donkeys absolutely love walking with new friends and we can almost guarantee you will experience similar ecstasy!

Mountaintop Scenic Drive-Mt Washington-Bretton Woods
A day trip to the White Mountains of New Hampshire! We will enjoy views of Mt Washington (the highest point in a 1000-mile radius) from near and far, and from every angle. This trip is great for sightseeing in general, especially in the fall foliage season (late September through October). The day starts early, I will pick you up from your lodgings in the Portland area (or Kennebunk area**) and take you to Sumner Park, where (on a clear day) you can see Mount Washington, 67 miles away. From this area on Munjoy Hill, I will share a historical perspective on Maritime Navigation in the age of Sail, and the European discovery of Mount Washington. From there, we will drive a little over two hours through woods, lakes, and foothills to the Mt Washington Auto Road, a private road to the top of the mountain. This road is a challenging drive, picturesque, and very high up. The top of the mountain offers a variety things to do--explore the lodge, Mount Washington Observatory Museum, and trails around the top. The historic Tip-Top House is particularly interesting. But the main draw of course, is the spectacular view. Next, we drive around the North side of Mt Washington, and over to Bretton Woods. Take a ski lift to Switchback Grille, where we will take lunch and enjoy stunning views. **From Kennebunk, we will use East Point Sanctuary instead of Sumner Park.
