Sights we'll see along the way include Downing Street, Westminster Abbey, Parliament Square, Horse Guard Parade, Big Ben, and the Houses of Parliament. It's not a prescriptive tour, so you choose & pay for your drinks along the way. We're here to offer recommendations, and you can often "sip before you sup" with a few tasters on request from the bars along the way. This allows you to indulge as much or as little as you desire! Join me as we explore London's wild spaces after dark to discover the amazing world of bats. As dusk falls, mysterious creatures emerge from under bridges and out of old trees to hunt. Surrounded by myth and misconceptions, bats are a truly unique group of animals, and much misunderstood. The focus will be on learning all about bats and their unique biology, why they are so important as ecological 'keystone species', how they navigate in the dark and how each species is highly adapted to its way of life. We'll watch them hunting in various habitats, and excitingly we will use handheld electronic bat detectors to listen to their ultrasonic echolocation calls. You'll learn how to identify various species, from the tiny flitting Pipistrelles that can fit into a matchbox, to the incredible and comical looking Brown Long Eared bat. With luck, we may spot the Daubenton's or water bat skimming the water surface like a tiny hovercraft. Or our largest bat, the Noctule, almost bird-like flying in open skies with it's military 'chip-chop' call. We frequently encounter other nocturnal wildlife too, like owls, foxes, hedgehogs and badgers. Who knows what the evening will reveal! Then we will head out onto the streets where you will learn to safely mount, ride and dismount. Keen to ride more? After a short coffee break, we will head out on a leisurely guided journey around the Westminster area, past many iconic locations such as the Palace of Westminster, Parliament Square, Churchill War Rooms, the gardens of 10 Downing Street and Buckingham Palace. After a short photo stop we will then roll on back to London Scottish House and return to the present day! IMPORTANT NOTE: This sporting experience is physically demanding and therefore only recommended for people with a reasonable level of fitness and those under the age of retirement. This walk follows government guidelines on combating covid to ensure guest safety. This walk is a History of London and walk through time. We will walk around quiet backstreets from Westminster to Vauxhall discussing subjects as diverse as royal history, finance and British culture. We will visit a Georgian cathedral town and pleasure garden, a Victorian penal port and graveyard, a Bronze Age port and religious site, and a 21st-century city that is still under construction. You will be immersed in different historical periods and will hear about lots of gossip and scandal. This walk actively encourages your participation. Other things to note Bring sensible walking shoes and rainwear—this is an all-weather walk. I will provide hand sanitiser. Occasionally some back streets are blocked off due to filming or local events taking place. When this happens or if guests have a particular interest in the History of the British Monarchy an alternative route/tour is offered which finishes in Trafalgar Square. All groups will meet outside the Dominion Theatre at Tottenham Court Road underground station, and go on a 2 hour walking tour exploring the streets of Soho. You won't believe how much musical talent was crammed into one small iconic street! The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix...the list goes on and on. We’ll explore where the Sex Pistols squatted, not forgetting where Elton John got his first ever job as a tea boy! Moving on to the venue that Brian Epstein, manager of the Beatles, took over and put on the legendary Jimi Hendrix one fateful night in 1967! It's then onto Soho square and see where Paul McCartneys business headquarters are. British RocknRoll began at this coffee bar which is just round the corner to arguably the most famous of London music venues, where nearly every major artist has played! Enjoy the spot where John Lennon took part in a famous comedy routine. Stand in the spot where the Oasis album cover was taken, before moving onto the studio where David Bowie recorded Hunky Dory and where the Beatles recorded the first release on Apple records! For those that want to continue we will then finish in an beautiful old, historic English pub, which has had many famous guests over the years, where I will tell you stories of my own personal involvement in the music business!

When we see a piece of art, we are not just looking; we are reading the language of images, be it Monet’s Water Lilies or a feminist sculpture. Instead of lecturing you using a list of dry biographical facts, I would like to encourage you to trust your own eyes and instincts and think of art in front of you in a more personal way. How did abstract art come about? Does the gender of the artists matter? What is the place of women in art making? Are there any differences in the approach to art making between male and female artists? What happened to sculpture in the 20th century? Is photography art? Who decided what is art and what isn’t and can art change the world? Do we have to like what we see in order to understand it and vice-versa? We will talk in-depth about all of these questions.
