A great beach for fossil hunting.
A seaside town with a sandy beach, harbour, refreshments and arcades. Blenheim gardens is a lovely little park to spend time in as well.
Toucan Café on the high street is great.
The South West Coast path starts in Minehead. It goes over North Hill, which has stunning views, before heading down to Bossington and then along to Porlock Weir and beyond. You can walk a section of it and then catch the open top bus back.
Channel Adventures (SUPs, kayaking etc) is based on the Seafront in Minehead.

Porlock and Porlock Weir are lovely spots to visit. You could walk from Porlock to Bossington for a yummy cream tea. Or you can park in Bossington (National Trust) and walk out to Hurlestone Point. There are other idyllic tea rooms at Selworthy and Horner.

Dunster, with its cobbled streets, is a very pretty place and Dunster Castle is well worth a visit, especially if you are in the National Trust. We always take visitors there.

The village of Bicknoller at the foot of the Quantocks is about a mile by foot and the walk includes crossing the track of the West Somerset Railway. If you time it right you can wave as they pass! Alternatively you can park in the village hall car park in Bicknoller and head straight up the combe.
The highest point of the Quantocks is about 400m high. Wooded valleys ad coombes lead up to the moorland with stunning views. We often park in Holford and walk up from there. You can drive and park at the top (for example at Staple Plain, Crowcombe Park Gate or Lydeard Hill Car Park) if you don't fancy the climb!
Ramscombe is a great place for a walk and a picnic and there is plenty of space for the children to run around and play in the stream. the Foxy Bean is a lovely cafe nearby. Ramscombe can get very busy on a sunny day though.
Staple Plain is a good spot for den building.

Lynton and Lynmouth are well worth the visit if you don’t mind a slightly longer drive, a stunning one at that. Just beyond them is the stunning ‘Valley of the Rocks’ and the beautiful more secluded beaches of Woody Bay and Lee Bay.

Lynton and Lynmouth are well worth the visit if you don’t mind a slightly longer drive, a stunning one at that. Just beyond them is the stunning ‘Valley of the Rocks’ and the beautiful more secluded beaches of Woody Bay and Lee Bay.
It is about a 70 minute drive over the top of Exmoor National Park to reach the glorious sandy surfing beach of Woolacombe in North Devon. We often just go there for the day. There are plenty of places there to hire boards and wetsuits if you don’t have any.

We often visit Fyne Court. It is a beautiful spot on the Quantocks, with woodlands to explore and it is a perfect place for taking a picnic as well.

The County town of Taunton is well worth a visit, especially if the weather isn't so good. There is a great museum and Vivary Park is a good spot, with lovely gardens, a playpark and high ropes.
