On the south side of the island of Vis, from the bay of Rukavac, you will find the small island of Ravnik. Its southwestern side conceals another natural wonder – the Green Cave. Beams of sunlight pass through the crevasses in the cave’s domed ceiling, shooting green colored reflections back and forth within the cave’s interior. The result is a divine effect of green illumination. The cave is called “green“ because of the green reflection permeating from the sea floor, resulting from an abundance of green algae located at the rocky base of the cave’s entrance. The Cave has two large entrances and is very accommodating, allowing visitors easy entrance with their motorboats. Swimming is allowed. An exceptional natural phenomenon, it’s an especially attractive diving spot.

While less spectacular than the blue cave on Bisevo, a trip to the Green Cave (on the small island Ravnik) may be just as enjoyable. It is also easier to get to: Take a taxi or bike/scooter/drive to Rukavac; there you can hop on one of the small taxi boats that takes you out to the cave (50-100 kn/person). It is best to go in the morning (e.g. around 09h00) - then you can easily take a swim inside the cave, or dive from the cliffs above/around it (bring bathing shoes as rocks around the cave are spiky). From noon and onwards, it gets very crowdy with sightseeing boats from Hvar. Once back in Rukavac, you may enjoy lunch at the good local konoba Dalmatino

It can be visited by boat from Rukavac or as a part of boat tour around the island. The best time to visit is around midday as the special position of the sun gives the cave light green effect. You can jump from the top (only if experienced!) and swim inside the cave.
