PORT-FREJUS, an extraordinary creation made up of small buildings in the early twentieth century seaside style, surrounding a tourist port that has the symbolic value of resurrecting the Roman port of Forum Julii, the ancient Roman city that 2000 years ago was 2 km further inland due to the retreat of the sea that has taken place over time, probably due to the collapse of the Roman port by the sand accumulated at that place along 2000 years. As a witness of this phenomenon is the lighthouse of Forum Julii which remains alone two kilometers away from the present shore of the sea, being known as Augustus Lantern, which marks approximately the limits of the old Roman port. It is precisely up to the indicated limits that the construction of the last stage of Port-Fréjus was recently extended, with the digging of one of its channels up to the Boulevard de Provence near the old Roman lighthouse. Therefore, it can be said that this beautiful tourist port symbolizes and reminds the port nature of the ancient Roman city. We recommend to make a new stop near the Square of Hermes where you can admire the reproduction of a sculpture found in the Frejus soil through archaeological works carried out in this city. That sculpture represents the God Hermes with its two faces, one of the god Pan or of a fauna with goat features and the other of Dyonisos or Bacchus, according to different interpretations. We also recommend our visitors to stop for a moment on the bridge near the Square of the God Hermès, behind the port, or on the beautiful pedestrian bridge of the port itself, and admire the channel that reaches the foot of the old city where the Roman port existed, with the postcard view of the hill of FRÉJUS dominated by its cathedral and its ancient medieval constructions. After this introduction, it is well worth strolling through the new port which is a very pleasant place to walk among the beautiful boats with no other concern than to feel the gentle breeze and the caress of the sun on your skin as you watch the T-shirts, souvenirs and restaurants along your way, climb up the wooden bridge at the center of the channels and observe the tourist activity from there. Enjoy an ice cream and sit down to one of those terraces of the beautiful café located in a small convivial square at the foot of the bridge, called "Brasserie Jacques" ! .

Petite structure à la fois sérieuse et sympathique avec un bon accueil et une bonne formation bien placée sur le port. Small structure at the same time serious and friendly with a good reception and a good formation well placed on the port.
